I have looked high and low, any announcement on the date the new server will be released? I am planning to come back to EQ just for this.

According to Absor they don't have an ETA and don't even know if the idea will work. They are still in the "discussion" phase of the project.

yeah so far it's just an idea they are tossing around they got alot to figure out like how to lock the other content from people, and how to make it so you have to complete objectives to unlok the next expansions and so on and so forth (i honestly have no clue how they are gonna do LDoN, DoN, DoDH, and PoR. cause it truly follows no lore if you read about it... it just happens one day lol.

A dev posted on EQTraders:

"I'm in charge of the progression server and will be the one working on getting everything up and running over the next few weeks."

I got a suggestion...

No tutorial.

level 1-15:
Stay on your own continent. Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes are stuck on Faydwer, etc.

Need to get 2 peices of newbie quested armor or similar tasks to unlock a continent.

Full newbie quested gear + level 25 to unlock all continents including Kunark.

Level 30 to unlock Velious.

Luclin? hmm...

To unlock PoP, you need to defeat Vox or Naggy, still need level 46 to go past PoK into PoT.

Would probably allow LDoN at level 15 with full newbie armor or a similar set of tasks, some including tradeskills. But you could not use magus unless you have unlocked other continents.

That's some ideas for starters...

Edit: Forgot about kitties, can't start a kitty until you unlock Luclin hehe...

I agree with Dothammer in regards to no tutorial. However I seriously doubt that the rest of his suggestions would be enacted. SOE is not going to spend alot of time on this since it is not a new revenue generator. It may draw some people back into the game but nowhere near the revenue created by a new expansion.

I would expect them to do as little as possible to get this up and running. I expect the PoK books to be visable but not working until unlocked, the boats to stay sunk, current graphics, current UI, current spell set, new Freeport and Ro zones and current tradeskills. Tradeskills would be limited by the availability of components but not by being locked. The more they "lock up" during the initial phase means the more that has to be "unlocked" later on.

Stay on your own continent? Why, back in 1999 if an adventurous level 1 gnome was daring enough to travel though Lesser and Greater Faydark, Butcherblock Mountains, take a boat ride, explore Freeport and end up an appetizer in East Commonlands, why shouldn't he be able to on a progression server?

I would love it but highly doubt that LDoN's will be available right away. The newbie quest armors are already going to change "the way it was" and I think that the availability of the LDoN's and equipment would change that even more. If you could start doing LDoN's at 15, by 30 and some luck you would have 6 or so augs for the gear you were buying with LDoN points. Quite possibly better gear than was even available before Kunark was released.

You want to hear a crazy idea? Multiple progression servers. Your Guild defeats Vox or whatever the goal is to unlock Kunark and your entire guild is tranfered to the 2nd progression server. That same guild attains the goal to open up Velious and the same thing, the entire guild is transfered to the 3rd Progression server, rinse and repeat through the content. This will allow "super guilds" to set records and be uber and allow casual players to enjoy the content until they are ready to move forward. Also make the progression servers single character only like FV, if want to play an Iksar or Vah Shir then when your guild progresses to that server you can delete your current character and reroll. Harsh I know, but so is getting a facefull of slush from a Shardwurm.
