Basically looks like zone is back to original layout and such but all new graphics. Far superior to the ugly Nektulos currently in game.

Newbie Log was a dead tree in Nek just outside the neriak zone. It was close to guards if you had to bail, but far enough out so guards wouldnt KS you.

Kinda like playing TAG when you were a kid, it was the relative safe spot.

ah...the noob log. you could sit on it and gank passing leatherfoot scouts for ages...../e gets all misty eyed
brings back fond memories of my first toon, a dark elf necro. good times.

You know how when your in PoK and ask wheres a good place to level for a xxx?

well prior to the tutorial newbies grew up in thier own citys lowbie areas with wonderfully titled camps like

Newbie Log (dark elves)
Chessboard (Dwarves)
Orc Hill (elves)
Orc 1 (Freeport humans)

and /ooc such as "Binding at Orc lift" or "Train to Tunnels from Orc 1" where common and instantly understood.

A-ha

Could this possibly be the reason that the wisp quest on the live servers is now bugged since the last patch.

I popped onto Test to take a look and oh my! it looks very nice!

It looks very nice indeed.
Still a few bugs to work out though: the tall grass and bushes would disappear and reappear as I moved (may be my laptop and not the new zone though); the old path is still on the map, but not in the actual zone; the new entrance to neriak isn't on the map; and by the ultricle (for those of you who remember what that was) I had 8 undead spawn in one spot in about 30 seconds and proceed to run away only to warp around and all be pounding on me at once.
That said, I am very much looking forward to this re-revamp. From what I've seen so far it will be a great zone, once the minor kinks are smoothed out.

Other than a great landmark and hunting waypoint, it was a place where young darklings could go to meet and ... well, let's say that it was the old EQ Drow version of Inspiration Point.

If you get that reference, you're old... /snicker

That's good news. I spent alot of time in the old Neriak doing newbie armor quests, so I may be biased, but I really don't care for the new look.

I like the old zones. I guess the idea to revamp some the older ones is nice, but I really do not like it either. Sounds like the newest version of Nektulos will be cool though. Really did not like what happen to it of the new Freeport.

I miss old Freeport a bit too. You can't just slap on new graphics to a new a layout. They should have adapted the old setup so there would still be a west gate and the bank in the same location, etc.
