Yes, EQ is a good online game still, and one of the best available. However, you can look at all of the things that have been done over time and see where a few have been nice improvements to the game, alot really just fixed broken or buggy stuff, and a few hurt the game. This veteran award falls into the 'hurt the game' category in my opinion since the system was developed as a reward for being a paying subscriber. To me it says, we are glad to take your money, and here is your thanks. It is not a big slam in the face, but the point is, it is supposed to be something all people will benefit from, and to casters, especially druids (my main) and wizards, this reward is of no use at all. Why should we care though? After all it is true that it does not effect the game play, we can still enjoy the game with our friends and guild. True enough, but do you remember how you used to be able to zone into most any zone and shout 50 <class> LFG and almost always get an invite? Try this now and revere in the silence for a minutes or two, then do a /who...ahhh dang I have the whole zone to myself. Each time we get a slap in the face, people DO leave the game. And does SOE care? Hell no, they want us to leave and play SWG or EQ2. They could make more money if they supported one less game. Now that is just an opinion as well, but I strongly suspect the CEO of SOE shares that concept. It could also explain why the developers seem to have drifted further and further away from the player base.
WoW anyone? Or will it be EQ2? /shudder
