Your words, so very well written hit every chord of what i've loved, and is now missing from EQ.
I began playing in 2000, around the time Kunark came out.
I ceased playing from 2001-early 2007 when the system specs left me and my PC up a creek without a paddle.
The nature of most gamers has changed. So many are driven by numbers... the game is saturated with too many grand items that simply make the game not what it was!
I miss the days when i'd battle through Crushbone with a party of fellows... working first for our Shiny Brass Shields... toiling for the items to create a Screaming Mace... fighting for our chance to camp Trainers Hill... the Throne Room... or Emperor Crush & D'Vinn themselves!
Nothing beats running for the walls when somebody shouts 'TRAIN'
When i read posts on here that the items i love 'suck' in comparison to what a lvl 10 can get now it makes me sad.
Because the players of today, are not getting the experience that i 1st had...
But that's the fault of many playing themselves. Like you said, nobody talks in character, nobody roleplays... my Dwarven Pally would rather die than group with that Dark elf Necro... now it's the norm...
It's all about accumulation rather than immersing yourself in, and becoming part of the world.
I don't Twink... i don't buy from Bazaar... and convenience aside, nothing beats the boats!! Hearing the cry 'BOAT' when you're still a bend and a straight away from the Kaladim dock, then hoofing it as fast as your stumpy Dwarven legs will let you, is what EQ was about. The dock was a great place to meet new friends, cast a line and have a quick dip...
Here's to those days and to gamers as true as yourself! I've a mind to start a new toon on your server just to have the pleasure of meeting one such as you!
