I am sure that many of you read my post "sad day" about Fennin Ro loosing one of its own recently, due to complications with cancer. There is a movement on Fennin Ro (of sorts) to make the character he played either an npc or to make a monument in honor of him. Some suggested in making a monument for all who have lost the battle, not just him.

It was suggested that Alla make a memorial section here on site, to comemorate him and all who have fallen. Alla has stated (this is what I am told) that if there is enough interest in it being done, that they will make a memorial section to the site.

So, I ask that you let Alla know that this should be done. If you have lost someone special to you or know of someone who has, then please lets make this known to Alla that this needs to be done.

Post here if you think this is a valid idea and something we all would want. I am sure they will see it. Perhaps one of the more knowing folks here, could make this into a poll and take a survey for me. In the end, it will help us all.

Thankyou.

I like the idea of a place where you can post the name and a few details of his/her EQ and maybe RL life.

In theroy its a nice idea , but a hard one to manage in practice.

I would be afraid of people fakeing stuff just ot see if they could get in.

How does one manage and screen it?

Could guildys do this? Or just Fam members?

Edited to add:

The more I think about this the harder it gets........What qualifies? A guildy who has to quit as they have crippleing arthritis? No not good enough? A death would cover but what about those who do so much good but are alive and unable to play. Are just overwelming good deads enough? SO just folk who have passed on? Just EQ? What about other MMO's?

I think its a very nice thought but has way too many little issues to overcome to be workable is a easy to manage way. If it take too much effort to do Sony ( or Allas or Samathas) could get buried with requests.

Quellious-Collective.com has a memorial page. Seems like we've lost more than you.

All good concerns, Rosleck. But imo that is putting too many variables into the equation. I am sure there will be those who fake it just to have their own names up there, ruining the beautiful intent. But, there is always that kind of bs in almost everything any of us does. It would have to be dealt with when it comes up or there be a process in place to verify the info.

The intent behind the memorial is as a place to remember those people who have died, for those folks that EQ was everything and all for them. These people are no longer with us, in life nor in game. They should be remembered.

My concern is that the memorial is set up for EQ. If other mmo's wish to follow, then may it work for them. Maybe EQ will lay the ground-work for such things. Who knows?

Edited: added further note.

The loss of all is a sad thing. I am not saying that I am only concerned with the loss to Fennin Ro. I am concerned with the loss that everyone feels, the impact it has on the EQ community game-wide. We all have lost someone, or know of someone who has. We should recognize, remember, and honor them all. We should thank them for the impact they had on our lives, both our real lives and our EQ lives.

ok .. i am writing to this because this post and the sad day post were made in honor of my husband fulanita. .. here is the thing .. when we petitioned /feedbacked /blogged .. or at least when i did it i not only told sony i would pay for the service of setting up a memorial .. but i would give them the information that they needed to authenticate my story. i was willing to retire the account .. and give the death certificate. so in no way would it be faked. and how many people would fake it if they had to pay 300 dollars or more which i am willing to do .. i told them i would even consider making a long term payment plan just like if i was keeping the account open .. so maintence fees. worries about people faking it is just not going to happen if sony set it up as a real service .. this is a dooable idea. i sugested a grave yard of sorts so that it did show the name i would ultimately like to see a statue or something of a personal touch for my husband and if i am willing to pay for it and hundred or so people have done so and are petitioning for the service i think sony owes its long time devoted players the service. i dont' mean we played once a week, i have played for eight years and for the most part every single day .. my husband was no difference he played six years and with the exception of the days he couldnt' get out of bed he was on everyday .. i in no way think this is to much to ask. and for the folks who want to rename the guild my guild is the oldest family based guild left from the old torvonilus server we will not be changing our name. my husband woudln't want that. i do agree with folks that say this should be a game wide service if they can put titles on people and then list thier names for winning a gm event .. they can honor thier long time customers. 16 guilds some major raiding guilds participated in the go pink movement in honor of my husband that is 16 established guilds of signifigant size on a server that is lacking in numbers as is. there were many more people who did it individualy. this isn't being asked because one person is upset that a loved one was lost .. it is being asked because a fixture of the fennin ro server was lost. and it brought to our attention the need for the everquest online community to remember and honor thier great players. we have fabled mobs we want our fabled heros to live forever.

Hey Quinaveere,

I Did know Fulanita from back when Elder Councilman were raiding with CoP. I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I am all about getting a memorial for the fallen put into the game. In my opinion it shouldn't be to difficult. The memorial would have to be in one location that could be used by all servers, as it would have to be a part of the game in its entirety, and not just one server.

Perhaps a statue that could be clicked on to display the names and info of those we have lost game wide. Similar to how the "Looking for guild" billboards in the guild lobby work.

I I'll back you 100%, if you need names, a petition, whatever, let me know. There are many others out there on Fennin who would surely be interested in helping!

thank you polley i really apriciate it i think we have many many people from fennin ready and willing to put this into the works. and i do think this needs to be game wise. and again to answer any cost issues i am not asking sony to do this for free i am willing to pay for it. i am sure many others on many servers are willing to do the same.
to the guy that says his server has lost more people .. this isn't a contest to see who wins the biggest lost prize .. if it was i have a eight month old baby girl that could throw her hand in for that she will never know her father, and she wont' remember him holding her and rocking her. he will never walk her down the isle, or see her finish college.
this isn't about having a post on some page ultimatly this is about how the loss of a prominent person allerted many to the fact that game wide something needs to be provided so that we can remember these players for who and what they were. that all can see. if we succeed and the game is still going strong years from now a newbie will run past some part of fennin ro .. and or any other server .. and see the monument . he/she will look at it and know that there once was a great player who made the game what it was for many people. and maybe just maybe some old timer in the pok will say to this newbie yeah i remeber him/her they were a great player and a great person. maybe that newbie will strive to be like the fallen hero. it isnt' for me or anyone with a heart the zones or the raids that make the game worth it. it is the people , the friends the online community that makes this game worth anything. i can easialy go play console and get great game play. but you can't find real heros on a console. you can't find that person who will stay up two days and help you camp a mob you have wanted. a person who will let you vent in tells about something crappy going on in your life atm. a person who teaches you the ropes of the game play. sends you advice about your class. is there and is proud when you finaly get that epic. these people you feel are your family even though you have never seen thier real face. i dont' know about you all but me and my friends on fennin ro send eachother real letters we talk on the phone, we laugh we cry together .. that is the game and My husband like many other great players touched the lives of so many in this way. he made the game what it is for so many people. he and players like him are what the game is .. not the next expansion. i met my husband in game after the torvo fennin merger .. it was his game play that i feel in love with before we met in real life. his honor , his humor , his willing to help , you guys know there are days when you think ***** it i am going to another game maybe a free one ( there are many out there ) but it was players like my husband that make you log on, make you say well i got my friends here.
again WE NEED our HEROS to be on norrath forever. i am asking anyone who plays EQ to start this up /feedback tell the developers we need memorials .. tell the gm's we need the memorials .. change the colors of your server. fennin went pink .. pick a color to memorialize the fallen and go with it. show sony this is something we want. we are also planning others ways of pretty much blasting this idea at sony .. if you got one let me know we are working on a you tube presentation right now ..if you lost someone make your own please. make sure it has everquest on there so that when folks are on u tube looking up everquest it comes up ..
thank you
sincerly

i know we haven't seen much movement in this forum in a while i wanted to say to folks this has been worked on in the last three years and we are still talking to sony .. recently we have gotten some headway in the fact that we are now proposing a market place item .. to memorialize. those who died of cancer . which is what we sought out to do .. also a guild villiage grave yard has been mentioned .. so if folks were wondering we are still pushing for something .. and a comment here .. this year due to the merger .. we had fula day on cazic thule .. so cazic thule went pink .. we are still getting great turn outs for our server i have posted on sony forums to make this a game wide thing for those that were lost

I think this is a great idea and I agree with memorials being game-wide - someplace where everyone from any server can access.

I have been in SecondLife the last 3 years and when a member of the community is lost, there are often memorial services held along with varying types of memorials depending on the person and their next-of-kin's wishes. I have seen parks named in loved ones' honor, monuments, waterfalls, etc. The difference is that SL isn't a game/MMO; it is an online community where all the content is resident-created so that gives SL residents a lot of latitude we don't have in EQ, although the new housing areas sound a bit similar.

I, too, am so sorry for your loss, guinaveere, and am in with this idea as well. I played EQ shortly after it began for 7 years almost daily and have just recently returned after several years. One of my former guildmates who became a good friend died in a tragic car accident. I was sent the newspaper article by another guildmate so I know his death is also legitimate and I would love to add his name to a memorial.
