Shining up a Rusty ClericFollow

I reactivated my original account, home of my two longest-surviving EQ characters (in the early days I had a habit of deleting and rerolling with the same name). I spent a few hours shuffling gear and then took the plunge and moved my old cleric onto my new account (I don't two-box so silly to pay for 2 accounts) & new server (Povar).

I quickly realized that:

-being 65 is great, but this cleric hadn't been played as a main since before LDoN... hooray for defiant gear, eek on the raised skill caps (or my pathetic play years ago?)
-had been sacrificed from the mid-50s to 49 then left for years which leads into:
-had a brief casual stint as a two-box in which 49-65 was done (and the epic 1.0)and as such has few spells past level 58 and many holes overall
-was levelled when the common approach was 65 then AA... so he has 18 aa (I chuckled... I haven't taken a character past 55 in years without serious AA).

Spells are pricey/unavailable, but I managed to get

A nuke and the nifty level 61 ward

I know I need to gather the 61-65 heals...

Any advice on spells, AA I must do ASAP, gear I should seek --maybe a clicky or such (aside from defiant), and general tactics? Keep in mind last time I soloed this cleric it wasn't practical at all. I am presently able to earn AA in Blackfeather Roost killing the lb pumas and such.

The old forums/threads for cleric are just that... old. I'd rather have some current advice from alla posters.

Ok...if you have your last undead spell, head to Veksar in the Lake of Ill Omen. Invis past the bloddgills and run up the ramp. Then kill the undead. If you have the map, move to the theatre ( you will need to invis past the Golems) and the mobs should rang from light blue to yellow to you.

I have leveled 2 clerics here. And now that it is a hotzone, you should not only be able to solo here, but group and play like a wizard...BOOM Smiley: sly

Extended enhancement is a good AA to get, and I did all the crit spell ones too. Although, as a cleric, most would say you need the heal AA's. I also did the damage mitigation AA's, since with the undead DD line you will have aggro alot.

Send me a pm if you need more info.

My cleric aa were spent first on extended enhancement, then on heals with a few thrown into run 4 and reduced aggro. Only did one aa into crit damage but that's my style of play. Cleric didnt solo much so I let the non healers fight.

If I had a level 65 Cleric with low skills, I would start by:

1. getting defiant (which you already have, I take it)
2. making sure my Conjuration/Abjuration are high enough to cast reliably
3. heading to Grieg's or Veksar where mobs do not hit hard and do not run at low health

I would then tank mobs "in the face" until my Defense and Dodge were maxed for the level. The XP won't be very good since you won't have your 71+ spells that make soloing easier, but trying to max Defense at 65 is easier than at 71+. It will also make you more comfortable with your character and his abilities.

As I recall, my level 66 Defiant-wearing Cleric could tank 2 level 55-58 mobs solo in the middle of Grieg's even though his Defense was only 180ish at the time, so one-on-one kills shouldn't be a problem at 65.

1a. Get all the defiant that you can in the bazaar.
1b. Do the hotzone quests for defiant back, shoulders, and waist.
1c. Check out the merchants across from the Cresent Reach zone that sell defiant earrings, rings, necklace, and face. Don't be afraid to buy the lower level items. More than likely the ornate or flawed defaint items will still be a lot better than what you have.

Spells should not be to much of a problem at your level. All of them can be made by trade skills up to lvl 75, minus a few, so you could go that way. Almost all spells under lvl 75 are rather cheap now days considering what they use to be. I remember when RGC spell was selling for 20K plus in the zaar. To bad you are not of Bristlebane or would make them for you.

Acoma,
I had already told him spells wont be a problem with the amount of plat in guild treasury and on my traders. lots of reasonable spell crafters on Povar, but if you want to come over ill send you a guild invite.

Get yourself a DA hammer from Greigs. Drops from, I'll try to spell it, Pateorian. He is a 2 day spawn in a room near the Scarlet side. He is the zone mini boss.

You should be able to take him out with just a tank merc once your 70ish, even earlier with some help.

The DA hammer is alot of fun, I'll try to remember the name now... Divine Hammer of Concentration?. If you ever decide to cleric-solo using your dmg/heal procs the hammer will really help.

Yeah, the hammer is an absolutely great item for a soloing cleric. Grieg's is a hot zone again so since the named's room has about 8 spawns, it's a damn fine xp camp.

Keep in mind tho the mob has 2 nice drops, the other one being a necro item IIRC. He spawns equipped with the item he's carrying so you know in advance if he has the hammer. Thing is, if he has the hammer, IT PROCS FOR HIM TOO, so it's best to avoid meleeing him or the fight can take a while, depending on your dps.

I used to kite him with my druid to equip my alts...
