Hey there,

Thank you for taking the time to submit this petition to the EverQuest In-Game Support Team.

I have investigated the situation and it appears that these players are AFK Mercenary Grinding. At this time, unless there are other programs or some sort of automation being used, this is not currently considered an exploit by the developers. I also highly suggest you, and anyone you know who disapproves of AFK mercenary play, please submit /feedback to the developers who are able to help change game mechanics and also change certain regulations.

Please remember we always welcome players to submit petitions when they think someone is using an exploit, a hack or is generally not following the rules. We look into every single petition submitted.

Should you have anything else with which you require assistance please feel free to send a /petition and we will review the situation as soon as possible. In order to get the most efficient service please always be certain to include important details such as exact NPC, quest and item names as well as an exact description of what troubles you.

Safest of Journeys,
Sincerely,
GM Kthalia the Spifftacular

So let me guess.
Folks found a corner of a zone where a mob(s) spanw, kill them then go afk letting merc take care of repops? Clever.
Violate the spirit of the game? Yep.

Without AFK merc killing, who would sit at the bottom of the Hole 24/7 and PL people for money?

Sounds like someone needs to run around the zone,. kick a few friends (mobs). Introduce them to his or hers new found friend (AFK toon) and then instant gate out of zone. Always nice to wake up in your bind spot.
Now on Zek we don't have that problem. If someone is really afk in zone they might as well tattoo idiot on their forehead. They will wake up in Shadowrest.

First, I would not take that GM email very seriously. I can cut-n-paste and toss in some edits to make it even more interesting.

Second, on various mergred threads on the Sony boards, there have been different GM responses to merc AFK killing. Some GM appear to be indifferent while others have an issue with it.

Third, it is safer to do this in instances. No one is there to complain. Sure you might get booted out of the instance after six hours, but it is better than someone training you. Start the instance, go to bed, wake up, start the instance again, go to work, come home, play EQ, start the instance, go to bed...

The soe mods locked the large merged afk xp thread, after many months of merging those threads into it.
They said the have forwarded the issue of this to SoE and will be returning with an official statement 'soon', hopefully finally we will find out what thier stance is.
