i camped most of the masks for my bard. saying i hated them is a stretch; it felt good to have a goal every night of hiding in some long forgotten zone for a silly lute, or a halfling mask, while waiting for your guildie friend to log on so you could begin AAing again.
but after thinking about it, these are the three i enjoyed the least:
NUMBER 1
Kelp-String Lute of Tide Rituals. this drops from a rare named in the sewers of Ferubi. all of the mobs down there hit hard and very, very fast. they're all tightly packed, and there's two places to hide: double shrunk behind a pillar, or underwater in a dark corner, which meant i needed an EB effect. and to top it all off, there's a roamer that path where the nameds spawns which has a 50% chance of being charmable, which is important as i needed the DPS from the charmed roamer to kill the named, which chain heals itself at 49%. and then charm would break early, or the named would get in a lucky round of crits, or i would get spin-stunned. or the roamer wouldn't be charmable, and i'd have to pull it into a corner and kill it - one time i even swarm kited the sewers to kill off the uncharmable roamer -... i probably spent 30 hours there. that's more than a full day of doing nothing but sitting in front of EQ killing monsters with unpronounceable names!
#2...
Neriad Shawl. this item made me really like Siren's Grotto. its usually just a zone everyone passes through on their way to WW; an obstacle. but i must have spent 60 hours, all underwater, charming and killing the mermaids for their elusive shawl, and by the end i really came to like the zone. i made good money down there, too.
#3.. its a tossup between the Shrink Wand in The Deep, and Eldrig the Old for my bard epic. i literally spent a month of play time kiting mobs in Skyfire, waiting for Eldrig to spawn. i was overjoyed when i finally got him and killed him. and the shrink wand wasn't such a bad camp, really, it was just kinda boring. the item really makes up for it.
