everquest mercenaries

I have not played eq for awhile now and returning my question is I am aware eq now has mercenaries - henchmen. How do they work?? I guess you can start them at level 1 and your off, do they come with their own gear and equipment and buffs? Is the equipment they use any good or would I better off buying them better things and what happens when they die or I log off the game and return are they suspended and able to call them back ?? I can see SOE still doesn't give much information typical. Am I better off if I am going to solo making 4 tank mercenaries and 1 cleric ???

Forgot to ask seen new expansion will be coming out underfoot I know currently their are Cleric and Tank mercenaries will underfoot introduce us to any new class type of mercenaries???

Ok thank you been awhile since played eq so will give it a try and see what happens time to make a reactivate my necro make 4 tank mercenaries and 1 healer and see what happens LOL

Ah didn't know that well will make a sk then since necro pet is gimp and make a cleric mercy that way can tank myself and have cleric heal me, just hope away to still fight named mobs LOL I will figure some startergy out thought could hire 4 or 5 since takes 6 to make a full group thank you for letting me know valuable information.
