New To Ever-Quest.Follow

Hello everyone I am new to ever-quest and am interested in playing. I have been watching my brother playing for about a year now. I did try World Of Warcraft but really didn’t care for it. I am interested in playing a tanking class either a Warrior or Shadow Knight. I understand Warrior’s are not that great at being able to solo and very hard equip and don’t adept very well. I understand where Shadow Knight can solo a little easier, little easier to equip. I am interested in opinions, suggestions and recommendations anyone may have.
My brother is currently playing a wizard which he seems to really enjoy and be skilled at. I however want to be on the fore front on the battlefield and destroy and kick monster butts.

I have always loved the shadowknight class personally. They have a number of tricks like invisibility, feigning death, fear, life taps that can make a difference between you winning an encounter or not. In a group they are good tanks with tools to grab and hold aggro.

I never played a warrior, but would consider one to be, by design, the ultimate boss tank but in exchange give up the solo versatility the shadowknight has. With mercenaries available in the game now, any class can solo including warriors.

All melee classes are gear dependent though, so you will be needing to obtain the best gear for either of your class choices. Fortunately, with defiant armor and weapons being fairly easy to obtain you shouldn't have any trouble in this regard.

You may want to try both classes, but be aware that most classes don't really come into their own until after level ~30. Alternatively, you could jump onto the Mayong server and start at level 51 to get a feel for how the classes play at a higher level and then maybe reroll a level 1 on your brother's server.

Test-driving on Mayong can be good, as long as you are fairly comfortable with the game mechanics (a WoW veteran shouldn't have issues overall).

A true brother will reroll and play with you till 50 (or 1-4 weeks depending on how casual you play together --longer than that for 50 you are really stopping to see the sights as it were). EQ feels very different in the 50s if you play them slower, in my view it changes radically once you pass 66 as well. 70+ seems very templatized --but that might be my experience playing mostly casters coming out.

Shadowknight gives you way more solo possibilities, and gets more out of the mercenary system than a straight up warrior with a cleric merc would. To explain: on Mayong the warriors with cleric mercs were always looking for a group member to do damage, whereas the SK's were happily killing by themselves.

If you are expecting to regularly play with your brother's wizard when you get up in level you could do very well as a warrior (as long as at least one of you has a cleric merc or you play with others).

Tank classes aren't renown for "kicking monster butts" aside from specialized situations (i.e., paladin vs. undead)really their role is to not die so others can do the killing, so you might want to consider the damage-per-second classes as well, several of which can pretend-tank in a pinch --depending on your priorities.
