At one time, Castersrealm was the main competetor to everquest.allakhazam.com. I can't say we ever really saw eye to eye, but It's still sad to see one of the Ancient sites fade away. Even if they do steal our images all the time.

Farewell castersrealm, a flight of angels sing the to thy rest (and you can have shadowrealm back, we don't want him!)

To be honest, I thought that site died a long time ago (like 2003).

I totally agree. My memory was the site was great for spells and ability info, but sucky at everything else. Whereas alla wasn't as good for spells, skills and non-spell AAs, but great for everything else. That at some point Alla became awesome for spell info (not sure about the history of Lucy), but continued until present to be sucky for skills, non-spell AAs, and awesome for everything else. Over this whole time EQTraders was the best place for tradeskill info, though alla continued to improve over time to be nearly as good.

Then about 5 years ago (maybe 2003 as you say, I'm not sure) Castersrealm suddenly died. They stopped showing new spells, links began breaking, there were even small tumbleweeds that would roll across the screen. Then a handful of years ago, everything was suddenly up to date and useful again. It would never again be ahead of alla in any category, but occasionally you'd fine a reason to visit.

Still remember my first guide in my whole EQ life.Someone posted about how a MAG could use water pet(poison immune) to level fast by killing those snakes(ASP,Rattle, tree snake) in old East commonland.

Heh,Castersrealm was really really great at one time, but now...sigh.

I too remember Caster's Realm... it was one of my most favorite sites, back when allakhazam (I still do not use the term 'ZAM' as i like the OLD version... not the new junk feel) did not have lucy's, nor was allakhazam's recipie database even on par compared to EQtraders...

Caster's Realm was by far, the first place I sent people when I was pointing people to information on everquest... With the current change of Allakhazam's page, it would have been even today a pleasant change to see Caster's Realm page over this new cheap look... As one thing they did try to do a lot on CR, was have a sense of style and try to keep things decent for people of ALL webpage experience levels to use... not like something designed in a comittee...

It's a shame to see one of the REAL webpages that cared about the game and the players go...

All of my characters were created with the optional stat distribution that Caster's Realm recommended. To my knowlege there is no website that offers similar advice even to this day.

I too used Castersrealm and sad to see it be lost in time as many things had done in my 49 years of life. But nothing is forever as I still love EQ and playing it everyday. I am getting use too the new Zam now it will take time for the long time players to adjust as I know you will as zam is a good site for information. As I said everything will change nothing is going to stay the same forever. Good or bad it is going to change with time and we will just have to change with it or be left behind. Zam took a bold move to change its UI but the information is the same. Thanks Zam for still being here.

on a related note, who owns the rights to the content that Castersrealm once posted online?

Sounds like you're interested in recreating the site based on cached content.

As one of the earliest EQ-related info sites, castersrealm had a lot of recognition. But bottom line it wasn't really that good. The spell info was useful because it was fairly complete. The rest of the info was generally superficial and very incomplete, especially when compared to allakhazam and other long-gone sites like eqprices.com. Even allakhazam can be incomplete, however, as any search here for info on certain AAs, discs and abilities clearly demonstrates.

Not to change the subject (much) but the best early site ever was/is eqatlas.com. I'm glad the Mac server people are keeping a version of it alive. Aside from those excellent hand-drawn pencil-colored maps, the writeups about each zone are so entertaining and interesting. I remember reading them in the early days when Muse's descriptions of the dangers of each zone would chill me as much as his descriptions of the rewards would entice me. I can't imagine the amount of work he put into eqatlas, especially where he would map zones by running his toon around the entire zone, writing down coordinates of notable locations. I think he was a medical student at the time too, which makes it even more amazing. At one time he was selling a download of the entire site which could be printed out. I bought it and created my own paper atlas which I used for years. Sony has never put together a single map as informative as any of his.

Various sites hosting castersrealm: Started at eq.castersrealm.com then eq.crgaming.com finally castersrealm.com. Although, they did say it was being sent to 1up.com but I don't remember looking for it there, and couldn't find it when I searched for it.
I started a new thread called Castersrealm and other long dead links. Because this one came up as goofy or something as it was so old a post. I just started playing again and it's interesting to see how recommendations for starting stats have changed. Especially for Enchanters.

It seems strangely appropriate that a thread about an ancient EQ site like castersrealm would be regularly necroposted....

I had a lot of exclusives posted onto that site. Even archive.org didn't save those. :(
