Whew glad I sold ALL my Sony stock last month!
Pull up their charts on line and you will see that in the last 30 days they have taken a beating!

That's bad news for SOE Gamers if Sony stock value continues to plunge for any extended amount of time. Its continued decline is possible with the myriad of problems i.e. The Japan earthquake/Tsunami and Nuclear issue-still unfolding as we speak .Then the Hacker issue which is also still ongoing. Sony has had a terrible year.
It is not inconceivable, that SOE may have to cut budgets (read:developer team sizes) or even scrap what may be deemed non performing investments/games to recover financially if the situation is not resolved soon.

Yes its not good-in fact I have resigned myself to the fact that everquest may not be around much longer-Will give it a few more days before I start looking for another game.
Anyone have any suggestion for a non Sony online game that is similar to everquest-I am about to throw in the towel after 10 plus years.

I'm not aware of any games that are similar to EQ. MMO's these days aren't the same, they're softcore, single-player games that you might occasionally group in. The only consistent time you spend with other players is during a raid or a PvP group. I'd love to know if there were any that come close to the immersiveness that was old-school EQ.

I have been trying WoW, and *LONG* to get back to EQ... The quest system has its points over EQ's though the newer quests in EQ are close... rewards are fair to poor in most cases though a few are decent upgrades... the races don't make a lot of sense to me, nor do most of the classes. Spells are limited and you only get one every even level or so... talent points are on the odd levels though you only get a few of those I don't for the life of me see how you will really be able to beef up a character with them...

Quests, like many in EQ are go and kill x mobs or kill mobs to get x items then return... most quests are "linked" so that you have to do them in sets to open the next set of quests. If you don't do most of them you don't really explore the zone as you might ought to ... sadly, in several cases you wind up fighting your way deep into a section... complete a small batch of quests to come out only to have to beat your way to the point where you just were to complete the next set... so, it can get tedious... though the drop rate is so high that you can go through multiple levels and 20-30 quests in an afternoon (depending on the complexity and your luck)...

Tradeskills I have tried to this point are even more annoying than EQ's, if that even seems possible... I decided to try mining to build up my paladin's "toughness" ... the problem is that about the only way is to mine ore in the right ore rage... which means finding a zone that has the "right" ore then fighting the mobs to get to it and then mining it ... and the pop rate seems low to me ... then again, spending three hours running a loop through the zone looking for ore may have soured me on the whole thing... annoyingly, even the mobs 35 levels below you still seem to want to waste your time by aggroing on you ...

The auction house is one thing that they almost got right... the interface (to me) stinks but the idea is pretty good. Instead of having to have your toon up in the bazaar you set an auction price on the stuff and check your mail later to get the payoff is someone bought your items (they take a commission)...

Still in my 30s I have not seen a mob drop more than a couple silver, though do enough quests, loot all and you can slowly build up some gold... other plat steals are the mechanisms (flying) used to get through multiple zones (trainers are so limited that you may as well stay in the starting zone and suffer the return trip cost when you want to get your next level spells/abilities)... the other is that gear "wears" and you constantly have to "repair" it to keep it usable... so far not a huge cost, but, another way they suck plat out of you...

Usable vendors are concealed well meaning if you don't know where to go to buy what you need... forget about it... and there is no "find" for a character name (at least not in the version I have, and I am reluctant to spend $90 something to get the latest version to see if that has been changed)...

Bottom line, WoW is an similar game, though I doubt that I will continue playing it when EQ comes back ... if I do, it will be as an adjunct when I am not doing EQ and want to do something else for a bit while my trader is up and I am not in the mood for a challenge ...
