Hello everyone,
I played eq up to the PoP expansion and after all of the horrible mmo's out today I really miss eq and it's player base.
I was thinking of jumping on the Fippy Darkpaw progression server. What expansion is the server on at the moment?
Also I love to group, I hate soloing. What is the most requested class(s) or needed class(s) on the Fippy Darkpaw server?
I remember the hybrid classes being sub par back in the day. How do they scale to pure dps classes today? I was thinking about rolling a ranger or rogue but It seems crowd control is needed much more and I don't mind rolling an enchanter.

Grouping? what is that? You have to join a guild to get a group or deal with playing with your merc at all times. The game is easy now.....

Mercs can be purchased in PoK and are free until level 14. After that you are charged with an "upkeep" every 15 mins. It is relatively easy to keep up with the upkeep cost as you level so no need to really be too concerned with that.
Mercs stay with you at all times. If you log out and log back in they are still there. At anytime you can "suspend" your merc and they will disappear (but leave their pet box up) until you call them back out. I suggest that once you have to pay the upkeep cost every 15 mins that you suspend your merc until you need them b/c you will be charged every 15 mins, as previously stated, and might not want to be if you are bazaar shopping or just running around.
There are different Tiers of mercs starting with Tier 1. You can hire up to a Tier 4 merc but to be able to obtain a Tier 5 merc you have to do a series of tasks to "unlock" them. These tasks are done around 75 (I think but please don't quote me on that as I am a returning player as well).
While leveling with a merc I highly suggest that you get a tank merc (even if you play a tank). Their DPS is outstanding, they can take quite a beating and their regen is great. I have been using a tank merc w/ my warrior and its been fantastic.

dang, the whole reason why i love eq is because of the grouping aspect. i can't believe they would encourage soloing.
If you are looking to group you may try the newer Time locked progression servers.
Grouping in other servers may be harder but not impossible. Just go to the level appropriate hot zones.

Fippy server is at Kunark, and will likely open Velious on the first vote.
Vulak is tracking along slightly slower, with a smaller population at the moment. Perhaps at some point the voting mechanism comes into play to truly separate the two servers.
Either way, on Timelocked Progression servers... grouping is king as the xp-rate they set totally promotes it. I played a necro to 45 (so far) and hardly any of it solo for xp (too slow, even killing red cons).
Also, mercenaries are a long ways off for the TLP servers.
On regular servers, you will play most of the under 80 game alone or with a select group of friends you manage to make. You will also be in empty zones most of the time at the lower levels.

As suggested best thing is to join either fippy or vulak, if you decide on vulak and enjoy grouping our guild "the golden age" has over 500 members so always plenty on to group with so feel free to give gwenlana (me) or melianna a shout for an invite. Mercs are years away on these servers and i doubt they will ever be unlocked if im honest so if groupings your thing then i would join us
