ex ffxi player looking for old skool mmorpg to playFollow

#1 Jul 26 2011 at 3:04 PM Rating: Default
hi

basicly i used to play ffxi until they increased the lvl cap and made it all stupidly easy. so after playing a few other newer mmos and getting bored, i wondered if eq could give me want i want:

force grouping: i'd like mostly force grouping with little solo content.

no instancing: i want named monster camps which have rare chance of dropping good loot to use while lvling etc.

slow leveling

end game to feature massive mmosters that take several hours to take down that spawn every 24 hours and guilds compete for claims etc.

loot which is insanely hard to get and your l33t if you have it

and other unique content which doesnt involve walking from 1 end of an instanced dungeon and fighting a boss you can kill in 5 minutes etc.

an actual death penalty: loss of exp and levels if you die etc.

also ffxi had cool storyline missions that used to be really hard that you had to do in groups of 6 (chains of promathia) would be cool if eq had something like that.

.. also if anyone uses the official eq forums.. i registered and eveything and still cant find any option to post a message, duh!

Your not really going to see what you ask for on the regular servers from levels 1-80ish.

Group progress has always been faster (in most circumstances) in all respects in EQ. Upper-level (aka endgame) content is still aimed at group and large-group (raid) requirments to progress.

The best loot is typically behind the top-tier raids of an given expansion.

Alot has been done to the lower-level game to make it much easier for soloer/casual that hardly login in type players to have a sense of progress.

EQ used to be really hard at low levels. Even the progression servers have shown that players are just too smart about the content and little creeping changes = way more power than it once was.

The progression servers are a couple of expansions away from instanced content, which gives you a few months. If you want slow levelling... solo on a prog server. Due to the "special" xp mod-rate a soloer will go very slow vs. a grouper.

You sound like a perfect candidate for the progression servers, there is a hard xp cap, no instances, and lots of other people leveling up as well

Enjoy the rampant hacking and WoW mentality players though.
