FV Server - Hotel California?Follow

I checked the SOE website to see how much a transfer is for one character to another server. During that search, I read that it is free to transfer characters to the FV server (which I did) but characters cannot be transferred off of FV. Is this the EQ version of The Hotel California and why would transfers for a fee not be permitted off this particular server?

Thank you all as always for any info/responses. :)

On Firiona Vie, most items are not NO TRADE flagged. All the raid armor and top tier gear can be bought in the bazaar. The rule is in place in order to stop people from buying raid gear then transferring to a different server.

Thank you, LeWoVoc, that makes sense. I'll never see (nor really want to) raid armor and top tier gear, but wish I'd researched more and gotten this answer before moving all my toons over to FV. *sigh*

They implemented the free transfers to both FV and Zek servers (and also tweaked the rulesets... more xp, and FV more towards "regular") in an effort to boost the populations on these two servers.

Zek posters (moreso on official boards than here) seem to be saying Zek is dying still.

FV posters (in various forums) seem to have a more positive outlook. I came to FV as a part-time dabbler with the free transfers.

The FV notrade ruleset... if applied a few xpacs back (Say TSS right now) would actually greatly improve the baz market for old lower level gear on the regular servers (since much of the stuff has no tribute or vendor value people would put it up for sale). I wouldn't suggest implementing the full FV loot code for the newer content though.

They let test server characters transfer off a while back. Pretty sure that means some FV born characters are now elsewhere.

As far as FV transfers off... I think a merger of the server would occur first, then paid transfers would be activated. I would surprised to see them offer free first, but they have done it in some cases already. IF FV (or Zek) was truly deemed "dying and in need of merging out of existence" I would anticipate some adjustment time (i.e., "in 1 month we are flipping the no trade flags to normal") prior to FV being merged into a regular server.

Ahhh, ok...I wondered why there were free transfers to just those two servers. Zek is PvP iirc?

I think that will be my new title - "Part-Time Dabbler." *grins* The only server I was on prior to FV was my original server, Tarew Marr, that got merged a few times and is now the Drinal server. With only that server for comparison, I like the FV server and now can understand the free transfers, etc., but tbh, when I rolled a toon years ago on FV, I really liked the one character only rule, no good races grouping with evil races, having to learn languages to communicate with other races, etc. It made the game so much richer, imo, than just the "grind and level" I see as the main play style.

Totally agree! I didn't do much "Bazaar browsing" on Drinal prior to transferring to FV, but many items in the Bazaar seem outlandishly expensive for what they are. I do hear in general chat by longer residents of the FV server that the plat market there is really inflated. I have no clue what the going price is of "TA" groups on other servers (and not exactly sure what they are - lol) but I see them regularly offered in general chat for 15K-20K. Someone from another server seemed appalled at that the other day and said on the server they came from 5K would be the highest, which is where I heard the response that FV has inflated plat.

It's not that I'm looking to leave FV...it was just the realization that I'm there for the duration (or as you theorize, snailish, until SOE comes up with other plans).

They probably should have launched Trakanon as the "new" RP server, with the character slot limit and then allowed 1 freemove from FV there a few months in (if not right away). After that... reg server ruleset mode FV and merge it away.

Maybe they'll still consider something like that. Trakanon is super low pop becuase starting fresh-fresh in the full game isn't that appealling. Odd rulesets (such as TLP) though, could have legs.

If they relaunched a PVP server with Velious as the content cap it would probably be robustly populated too (no unbalancing AA tricks or mercs, world isn't too big, but keep in things like ooc regen, etc.).

They could also probably redo a full-world one-char per account pvp server and have that be more active than zek is now too. What to do the with the 12 year old PVP characters that still want to pvp I don't know --would really depend on the numbers.

This is all theory-opinions though anyways.

Glad your enjoying FV Azalysa.
