Get HoT (House of Thule) it comes with every expansion. See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1318819609217271296#6 for details.

System Requirements: http://www.gamesystemrequirements.info/everquest-house-of-thule/

House of Thule is the best one to get. I agree with Yther.

You can find it for 20 bucks at Amazon.com, Steam (www.steampowered.com)and direct2drive.com.

It comes with all previous expansions, so you'll be caught up with that one.

One thing to note, is that the next expansion will be coming out in about a month or so. It will be 40, and include everything previous as well. I only note this so you have the full information, but (as noted) I agree with Yther about HoT being the way to go.

If your not coming back just yet... wait for Veil of Alaris to launch and be totally up to date without having to upgrade for an expac.

I might even buy VoA --having skipped the last 3-4 expacs. I hear mercenaries are useful...

As far as system reqs go... they've mostly avoided making old machines (aka circa 1999 systems when the game launched) fail to at least run the game on low settings.

Assuming your computer is 6 years new... I doubt you'll have any issues. I play on a 5ish year old frankenstein of a computer --it has more issues with windows explorer than EQ.

I would suggest to consider the price of HoT versus VoA before making a decision. HoT is only $20 now while VoA will be twice that. Might also be able to catch a sale on HoT at one of the sites in the next month or so for the holidays.

There's really much (from what I've read anyway) for the lower levels in Veil of Alaris, so if you're not in the upper 80s or at level 90, I'm not sure how much more you'll get for that extra 20 bucks.

Mercs are indeed useful. They came with SoD, which was several expansions ago, so you'd get them with HoT as well.

I've been purposely dense about mercs... playing mostly casual necro on regular (now FV) servers and TLP (where there is no mercs).

A slow player like me shouldn't buy VoA since I won't get to the content for 5 years at my current pace. If the OP plans to get endgame... that's when I would say spend $40 now instead of $60 total.

However, if not aiming endgame then the HoT recommendation makes more sense. Mostly because SoE fails to recognize that even raiders (not all but enough) like to dabble in low level content when it is new (TSS was the best xpac overall since Velious...).
