So no more 51 50 server but why?Follow

Just returning to eq had read an article stating that they closed down the 51 50 server because it was not popular. I had no problems gettin group on it, so no idea how they can say he was not popular pok was always full. I had a toon on that server so is it just gone, what about the money and time I invested seems unfair to me and everyone else in my situation. Just another prime reason most people have quit eq, dumb soe real dumb.

Mayong merged with Tunare on 9/8/2010. See http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=168452 and http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?topic_id=165388

EDIT: I should of explained it more / better. Tatankaseventh got it pretty well. The only problem you may have is, if Tunare was / is full of characters prior to the merge, you won't see them, and will have to delete one or more of the old characters to see the ones from Mayong. Also of note, Tunare had several merges previously, including: Tunare (E`ci 5/30/05) - The Seventh Hammer (Lanys T'Vyl 4/11/05)

See most, if not all, server mergers at: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=127717215450603045#3

It was very popular when it first started, but fizzled out quickly. It had no special rules beyond 51/50 (which is pretty quick to get to anyway) and people preferred to play on their regular servers with their toons and friends and stuff.

Yeah, when you consider that 51/50 was not targeted at true EQ newbies (they need to learn the game, so starting from 1 makes sense), then you have to look at how long it takes a vet to reach 51/50. In an era of mercs, defiant gear, fellowships, and all the other new features to make the game more enjoyable, it just doesn't take that long to get to 51/50. With the other huge benefit that you can get the new char to 51/50 on your home server, so there are twink and plat sharing benefits as well.

PS - To answer your other question... your time and money are not wasted. If the server was merged to Tunare, your char will still exist there. And since the only way your char would have been deleted is if it was under level 10, and yours was level 51 right from the start, it should be there. Hope to see you on Tunare :)

I moved my toons back over to Drinal. They allowed one free server transfer once the servers merged.

I came back (done that a few times) for 51/50 and quit long before it truly died. For the most part it was a "test-drive" server. I only ever found the level 50-65 hotzones busy... and not always.

The concept has some merit:

...51/50 wouldn't unbalance anything as a character-screen creation option --but it would compel me to try some alts on servers I have character slots on.

...75/700 might be a worthwhile special ruleset server to try. Maybe even limit character slots on it (promotes deleting & rerolling) and/or use the FV loot code. (or just give FV creation that option...)
