#1 Nov 15 2011 at 5:10 PM Rating: Decent
I stopped playing about 5 years ago....I had 4 accounts and would 4 box all the time....My highest player is a 67 necro...

but i have the following on different accounts

65 enchanter
67 druid
65 cleric

What account should I resume...and where can I solo? and level fast....I really miss Everquest, I played wow for 5 years...and maxed it out...

There was nothing like the excitement of the original EQ....

Doe anyone even play any more?

Old servers retain a core playerbase that is mostly 85+ in level, that will shift to 90+ over the next few months with the expac release (today).

Fir. Vie has a lower pop (and funky ruleset) but a bit more lowbie action.

Progression servers are the highest pop and you'd be starting over with lots of content locked out to you.

Depends what you want to do and what you enjoy. If you accounts are very different ages... I would activate the oldest one as you get more veteran rewards. My highest character is level 70... if I didn't play supercasual I could roll a new character and get past that in a few weeks, without powerlevelling. That's how easy it has got if you know what to kill (between hotzones and mercs).

I recommend reading the "coming back thread" at the top of the forum.

If you're looking to just activate one account and solo, don't do it on the Druid account. Druids CAN solo for very fast XP/AA, but at limited camps (reverse charm kiting). All other camps are too slow (IMO). Necro or Cleric could be very good with a merc (assuming you'll be buying a recent expansion, highly recommended). Enchanter could be the best, as you can reverse charm kite everywhere, but I hear it's quite challenging.

Anyway, best of luck, and welcome back :)

TO get to level 65 would just a few weeks even casually playing so don't worry about starting over. It would also give you time to relearn EQ. I came back in March 2010 and I am level 91 (VoA just launched today) with over 6100AA. It really isn't hard to level anymore.

You said you want to level fast and you want to solo; I would reactivate the oldest account so you get the vet rewards like snalish said and roll a new character on Firiona Vie. We have a 50% XP bonus and all gear is tradable (very few no drop items)so if you have an older character with gear or plat transfer them to FV for free and then gear up your new character. For fast leveling via solo I recommend a mage. Buy a tank merc until level 65 (they are overpowered until around level 65, then switch to a healer merc and let your pet tank). I just rolled a mage waiting for VoA to come out last week and she is level 68. But if you plan on staying for a while really pick the class you want to play.

www.soe.com/status shows the population of all the servers at any given time. Don't just look at it once though, look at it all through the day and you will see FV is pretty average population.

Do not buy latest expansion if you come back... Wait till you get to at least lvl 90. You are wasting your money otherwise. Words to the wise...

Unless you find the expanded toolbars (with cooldowns) and clickies from inventory (bag slots, no need to leave stuff in a main slot where a bag could go).

Those two features alone were enough for me, even though none of my chars is at 90 yet.

Paying $40 to have every expac vs. paying $20 for any older one (and everything prior to it) doesn't really work unless you don't mind skipping/waiting 2 full expac cycles:

Buy HoT for $20 with no VOA. eventually need VOA, even if waiting for it to be $20 is still a total of $40. Waiting till expac after VoA means paying $40 more than the original $20, but technically splitting the cost of VoA in half. Original $20 + either $20 for expac after VoA when it goes down in price OR 2nd expac after VoA at the full $40 (basically making VoA free).

Really... either buy no expac at all or buy VoA.

I skipped 3 myself by the way... So buying VoA was quite the value as far as content/features.

Or pay $20 for VoA.

I hear that's what places like Amazon usually charge.

Or get double station cash like I did a couple weeks back when they offered it. Then VoA costs 3999 SC = $20.

I did the same with HoT this summer, but with Triple station cash. 4300 SC / 3 = $14.33 :)

I forgot about that. Not in the USA so many of the discount routes don't work. I'm not allowed to order via Amazon usa for software, and Amazon of my country doesn't do EQ.

The patient can certainly save money.

I also recently came back and am having a blast 3 boxing some old content with 3 Merc's. It's pretty fun. Druid 69, Tank 68, Enchanter 51 with a Rogue, Cleric, Wizard Mercs respectively. Almost took on Vindi in Kael the other day just for fun.

It also looks like much better armor is dropping in the older zones. So gearing up seems to also be a lot easier than it used to be. I am sure I will start migrating to newer content soon.

There is still some gear that is relevant even with the current expansions from some of the old zones too. So that is an added bonus to coming back even if your toons are in their 60's. For example in Vex Thal one of the bosses drops the Umbracire Swarm Orb that has a 15% mod to alchemy skills which is still the highest in the game. So you get to go through those zones which are still great fun and maybe find a pearl in the drops.
