Hot Buttons Changing After Zoning?Follow

I really like the option of changing the size of the hot buttons and especially like being able to rename them since I can't remember what some of the buttons do with the standard AA names. However, after renaming the buttons they revert back to their original names after zoning and/or logging. I'm wondering if this is a glitch, or if the names only "stay put" if one purchased VoA.

Anyone with and without VoA notice this at all?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

This is not happening to me. I don't own VoA, if that has any impact, I dunno.

You seem to get more than your share of glitches, Aza. Have you tried reinstalling the game from the original floppy disks? (I jest, I jest... I know you're more than a little frustrated with all the problems you've had since VoA went live.)

I have not renamed or resized the buttons. However, I have re-configured one bar to be 2 columns of 6 rows. >EVERY< time I log in, it's 1 column of 12 rows, and I change it back to 2x6 again. General chat on Tunare says it's a known bug and will be fixed in the next patch. Perhaps what you're seeing is related.

Thank you everyone :)

I don't have VoA and, although the hot button changes were introduced at the same time VoA was released, this isn't necessarily related as far as I know. A friend of mine does not have VoA, has renamed his hot buttons and they do not change as mine do. I plan to take a look at my UI_charactername_.ini file to see if I can unearth any mysteries there. I have to go into that file regularly as every once in awhile I'm not able to change my spell gems by clicking and selecting a set, clicking one gem to replace it, or even get any of the menus to come up by clicking on the chat windows. When that happens, I have to log out of game, go into that .ini file and change the line that says "Context Window=" back to 1 from 0. I wish I knew what caused that to happen while playing (so I could avoid it!) or if it could be changed back within the game.

LOL on reinstalling from the floppies. While trying to solve the mystery of why I kept getting logged out of game immediately upon login (which turned out to be a bug related to being in a large guild and having the "Show Offline" button ticked (who would have thought that would be the problem?!?!) I think I reinstalled the game twice in upgrading to the newest Launch Pad.

These EQ annoyances pale in comparison to my cable company "saga" that began when I called to transfer service when I moved. Oy! Some day I'll post that. It was so frustrating that it started to get funny!

I don't mean to be contradictory, but I do not know how this could be a "known" (which implies widespread and constant to me) bug. I say this because since VoA, which I do have if that matters, my configuration on my bard is 5 vertical resized rows of 1x12, with 2 horizontal boxes of 2x6 sized to fit underneath in a very tidy box. My configuration has *NEVER* changed, from day one until now. In fact, I have specialized and unique custom set ups on all three of my boxed accounts, and none of them have been changed or reset in any way since I set them up. If this is a known bug, I have somehow managed to avoid it. Perhaps it has some weird relationship to certain computer specs or settings? That would be my only initial guess as my setup has not changed since I spent (probaby literally) hours getting it looking just right and all pretty. Also, I play quite a bit being self employed, and have never seen this brought up or discussed in Bertox general chat.

* Fake edit : I talked to my group tonight, and none of them have been afflicted yet, either. May I ask if you by chance /ex to log out? The only reason I ask is that there used to be (and maybe still is, I don't know) a bug where using /ex to close out the game many times caused your chat settings like font size, window filters and placement, to not be saved. I work extensively building and repairing computers, and because of this I am the unofficial resident IT tech for my group. One of my regular group members was having this issue and was convinced someone was "hacking" him just to ***** with him. I stumbled upon the fact that using /ex to log out sometimes failed to save and in fact reset some of those very settings. Once this member stopped using /ex as a quick way to exit the game, he stopped having the problem. I'm not saying you do, I'm just brainstorming to troubleshoot here because if it is a bug, it definitely is not a constant or very widespread one. Maybe there is something that those of you having this issue have in common, be it settings, computer configuration or components or ...? I will look into this further and see if I can dig up a possible cause. Check back here, and if I find anything I will let you know. I love to troubleshootstuff like this and help people fix annoying problems like this. I just have a problem accepting this is a known bug when my personal survey has failed to find anyone else afflicted by this problem.

While searching EQPlayers re: a fix for a Necro dot refresh issue ,I stumbled on a thread that might help :

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/posts/list.m?&topic_id=181008

I haven't had the name change or resizing issue, though a few people have reported the hotbar resizing issue on the thread.

Good luck.

Have NEVER done /ex to log out. Always /camp or /camp desktop

As far as it being "known": I asked in general chat, and had three people respond almost immediately that they saw the same thing, and one said it was known and was scheduled to be fixed. Is it possible that he was FoS and just blowing smoke up my butt? Certainly. I was just reporting what I'd heard.

As far as I am concerned, I'm not that worried about it. Takes me all of two seconds to fix it when I log in.

Tat

PS - Fanra's first post in the thread linked above (5th or 6th post) is exactly what I'm seeing

As far as I know, the problem with bags resizing has been around since they made resizing an option. For those affected by the bug, you can manually edit the INI file(s) to set the bag sizes and positions out of game, and they will stay at those settings, but resizing them again in-game after manually editing the file(s), the bug will reappear and reset them to how and where they were manually out of game set.

I'm guessing the renaming hot buttons is a bug along the same lines, however, it could be due to other issues, but unlikely ones, such as the INI files being set to read-only.

The following thread talks about it a bit: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1287560169118747563 --- Actually, I guess it doesn't really too much, but that is when the bug started. Supposedly, it was (or was suppose t be) fixed around the same time, but I never noticed on any of my accounts / toons, which all became bugged (think it was the 2nd bag patch .. the 1st one the INI files would remember changes, but not after the 2nd one).

I really appreciate all the new info and I briefly checked out the links given. I will go back and read them in detail when I have a bit more time. I also posted in the thread about my issue. Sounds like something can be done within the .ini file; I just have to figure out what...lol.

I do use /ex to camp out a lot, but my particular issue (the hot button names changing) occurs when I zone as well.

Will report back with any updates. :)

According to the Dec 14th patch notes: the 2x6/3x4 button resizing issue is fixed. Hopefully the "button text change" issue some were experiencing was fixed also.

I'll report back in on the text change issue when I play tomorrow.

SOE-EQ's (skeleton crew) developer team is so slow these days with bugs etc...... I hope they deal with that issue before the next scheduled patch.

Eh. By that time I'll know by heart what the AA buttons do...lol. (I already mostly do now; just a couple sound like they do the same thing and I end up summoning a non-existent corpse when I'm in the heat of battle and trying to regain health & mana. Smiley: lol

LOL,

I'm seeing the need to shrink my hotbar sizes now since they allowed extra ones to be kept permanently on the screen. But the text names are sometimes too long too fit in the smaller buttons and I need to change/shorten some of the names.

It should be a priority imho.

Will start "harassing" the devs on EQ Forums for a fix (lol).

For many years, I've been wanting to do a UI add on that did hot buttons in short but wide buttons, so you could get long text to show up. Still would like to do that, just never get around to it.

Anyway, the real reason for the reply, is you can look up the AAs here, and the wiki pages list the macro to use the AA, such as /alt activate 6000 for Harm Touch, and you can name the macro whatever you want, and put in other things such as emotes, like /em touches a %r in a not so loving way. or whatever you like.

EDIT: Ooops, I guess you meant any type of hot button. I've been working on AA pages, so had it in mind.

Yther Ore.

I was referring to the AAs that I create Hot Buttons for :) That's a good idea, Yther...thank you for that suggestion!!! I often forget about macros since I solo so much and usually don't have the general grouping ones.

If you ever create that UI, PLEASE let us know!!!!
