The Coldain Prayer Shawl Quest and trade skills were the order of the day - or weekend. Before I returned to EQ I had completed Shawl #6 so work began on Shawl #7. This one had me working on pottery, brewing, and fletching trade skills. All three are now in the 172-180 range. Fletching was by far the easiest since I could sit in one location and purchase all supplies from a vendor. The other two included some farming during which I visited Crystal Caverns, North Ro, Siren's Grotto, the Western Wastes, and Eastern Wastes. I never spent any time in SG or WW back in the day; SG was especially fun.

By Sunday I was ready for the last trade skill for this Shawl - jewel craft. From doing some reading it appears to be a potentially expensive skill up. (Level 172 needed for the Shawl combine.) I've never quite figured out how some people make so much plat in EQ; I'm assuming some is by selling loot from higher level zones. I set up my trader overnight on Friday and Saturday and made approximately 2,000 pp. Not a lot, but something.

Instead of beginning jewel craft yesterday I decided to organize my bank. It was totally full, much of it with trade skill supplies. I patiently looked up each item I had and got my bank well-organized. I was amazed how much stuff I had that I no longer needed. I was very pleased to free up some much-needed space in my bank.

(Edit: While researching info re: Shawl #7 I noticed there is now a Prayer Shawl Quest 2.0. Nothing in EQ ever quite "ends" - lol.)

My monthly Station Pass expired last night. I may give EQ a bit of a break...or not...lol. At the moment I am downloading WoW, having decided to purchase it after about a month or so of playing the trial.

My weekend pictorial - I was farming zombie skins in North Ro and running up to each mob and giving it a couple of whacks when I realized this was not very time effective, so I did a low-level version of what I think SK's now call "swarming" and what druids have always called "quad-kiting" (although now more than just 4 mobs). It's such fun to gather up a bunch of mobs that don't harm me then plow them down with an AoE.

This screen shot reminds me a bit of one from "Has Anyone Here Seen My Corpse?":

I dabbled on my trader briefly, didn't really get to play.

On the official forums I am watching the thread about autogrant AA closely. It's interesting to me that most of the people against it are wearing hardcore raider guildtags (so people already deeply into Alaris).

It would be nice if more casuals would log in there sometimes and speak up. I think Alla gets more of that voice even though more people in total are posting there (o-boards). In other words... I think the O-boards are dominated by hardcore/elitist players --at least of late.

Edit: tone in a typed message can be hard to tell. I do think that hardcore raiding is a vital part of EQ's appeal, and should be a massive part of the effort of most expacs (it would be nice to have a TSS start to cap new race every 3rd one though).

My frustration on the O-boards stems from people who are clearly both hardcore raiders & elitist. You can be an elitist casual too... So I guess I want the average-nice person that is hardcore raiding (and maybe likes alts or just likes casuals players) to chime in there more too.

Didn't do too much in game this weekend. Need to find a new place to set up camp, since the rockhopper/tribal caves in Dawnshroud is popular because of those dang shards.

Had the pleasure of meeting Yther in game though. Highlight of my weekend. 8-D

Got my Shaman up to level 53 and managed to talk an old friend into firing up his old account.

We figured out the free transfer to Firona Vie and he brought over his Beast Lord and I brought over a Bard from the old 51/50 server I never actually touched. After a near fatal trip to PoD I broke out the SK and we grinded a few AA's in The Steppes.

I was enjoying the Bard for the brief time he was out to play, I may have to putter around with him now.

I built up Servant of Ro some. I xp about 45% into level 65. Sunday I had 2 minor muramite drop in Noble's Causeway. I made about 4k pp in trader mode, first time trading in a long time.

Have a great week guys!

Yea, talking to amastropolo was one of my highlights as well. :) I only wish, I used to playing better again, 'cause normally, I don't have a problem keeping up with a tell, the group, and guild chat, but I couldn't up with guild much (even without the tells), and the group was a bit challenging at first. Looting probably the main cause of that though.

Looting was good though, got enough cash to buy a hot aug for my weapon, which is helping out. I just need more dex so it procs more.

Anyway, started in CB at 16, as I was stilling needing an Orc Fibula to finish off my last newbie armor piece, the legs. Finally got one, and asked about joining a guild. Turned in the CB belts and lego pads for some xp and coin from selling the items. Finish the guild app and got invited. As soon as I joined, got offered an invite to PC group, which I was planning on heading to anyway to see if I could solo it. Got to 21 there, then we headed to Unrest. Unrest basement was too tough for multiples due to respawns, then the group kinda fell apart. I didn't break up, but afks for an indefinite time period, where we were planning on heading to HHK when everyone got back. I headed to Highpass to see how that would go solo, why waiting. It was ok. Not enough dark blue cons, and the nasty orc fanatic caster, even dark blue would cause a long down time afterwards, since the only way to kill it fast enough to not die, was chain nuke it. So I burned up alot of mana on those fights. The orc warriors when db cons, were descent exp at 3% and pretty easy kills as long as solo, not bad on pairs.

Anyway, I died a few times right before dinging 22, finally made it though. Eventhough exp loss wasn't too much per death, it adds up on multiples. :D It was fun and good learning exp. Basically, I need alot better resists, as the Shm nukes and dots really take a toll on me. I mitigate descently for a Ranger with relatively low AC (300s atm, used to being 500+ on normal servers by this level).

Looking forward to getting back in game this week to level up some more.

Have fun everyone!

Yther Ore.

There are entirely too many people there deathly concerned with any little achievement of theirs being trivialized by someone else having a more convenient time with anything in the game. I post there once in a blue moon but honestly have a hard time bringing myself to make a serious, well reasoned post.

Most threads devolve into mindless argument between people too biased against other posters, classes, or player types to have an honest discussion with each other, such a waste. In the end it just leaves more muck for a developer to dig through to try and address any issues and concerns, and hinders the whole process. Needless to say, I understand your frustration.

I almost replied to say essentially the same thing but wondered if I was just being cranky, lol. You said it much better than I. Totally agree.

This is also why I keep guild chat off most of the time - same type of conversation instead of what, to me, a guild is - helping each other. The reason I stay in mine is that there are some great people, usually new returnees to game after a long time but they are not the ones who are vocal in guild chat; the above- referenced type are.

This site is infinitely more helpful and 100% more friendly. Smiley: smile

Too true.

I didn't even register for the O-boards until TLP, because I saw how decisions on TLP were being swayed by forum discussions.

Most of the players of this game are more casual. True they aren't getting near as far in the content, but they get to it eventually. Casuals need the raiders pushing on ahead of them in the sense that you want progress to aim somewhere. As much as I would love and xpac solely focussed on the level 1-75 game, I don't see that happening.

So I try and be a reasonable voice of "I don't do hardcore raiding, but I often play more than the typical silent on forums casual"

I definately prefer talking with people on these boards. :)

LoY imho was one of the worst implemented expansions, and it was aimed at lower than max level. However, it wasn't due to the lower level focus that made it bad, it was other things like difficulty vs experience when it came out, and most of the good stuff which was new recipes, items, spells, etc. could of been implemented in any expansion, or even between expansions. It's too bad too, 'cause it could of been great. It's ok now that the lower level power has increased more than enough to make the exp rate viable, but at it's inception, it didn't have a draw to it, like it should have had for the lower level toons.

That may have been intentional though to keep PLers and Farmers away, to make life for the lower level easier, but if it doesn't have good incentives to adventure there, it doesn't really matter. :(

I too wish they'd do more for the lower levels in new and exciting stuff, but doubt it happening from previous expansions. I'm still for an all-in-one 1-max expansion as well. TSS was by far one of the best. It's not my all time favorite but in the top 3 for sure.

EDIT: Oh, in re: to O boards, it took me many years to sign up as well, and it was just to mention a bug or something that wasn't getting attention despite many /bug entries by me and others I knew in game (might have even been in EQ2). The newbie forum is ok, as it's a little bit helpful, and the tech forums are good, as least the programmers and knowledgable people posts are. The complains, as most complaints tend to be, are hyperbolic and excessively demanding. I don't know why people don't realize that simply stating the problem clearly and concisely is more likely to get it fixed sooner than any other way of complaining about it. :-/

LoY remains one of the greatest ideas, poorest implemenations in EQ. I remember levelling up when that was newest content... the zones weren't busy outside of LoY spell questers because they were way too hard for most to level in, and lucrative (for the era) for higher levels to farm. So you'd have level 65's killing the Dulak boats...

I agree on TSS being top 3. Kunark and Velious are there for me too. Others might have been in the past, but they haven't aged as well to my not wanting to be tied to the computer (i.e., Ldon, PoP).
