Hello Everquesters,

I decided to re-enter the world of Everquest, but I need some help, if thats possible...

1. Anyone got a recommendation for a place for a Non-Raid geared based Pally to start farming AA's?

2. Where is the best way to get geared up?

I have about 550 AAs, I can explain where they are vested if need be.
I'm level 80, 25 k hp, 3.1k ac unbuffed.

Might want to include whether or not you'll be using a merc, and upto what expansion do you have? The info you already provided would be a great help, if I knew more about soloing / moloing a Pal, but I quit playing the highest one in the 60s.

If you're gonna solo with a mercenary (molo) and have Seeds of Destruction (SoD), then Field of Scale animals should be good. If you don't have SoD, there's several quests in Loping Plains for kills, including Goblins, Worgs, Wereorcs, Alligators, and even some quests involving undead. Some, if not most of these can probably be soloed, but will be challenging, I'd imagine. I never been to LP with less than 500 AAs, but also start in the 70s. Hills of Shade is full of undead also, but may be a bit tough to solo or maybe even molo. I know raid geared Pallies used to solo there alot. If LP seems too hard to start with, you can try the Farm in Dragonscale Hills. It is very easy by 80, and the quest XP is descent AA even at that level.

If you have the cash, and any is still available in the bazaar, the turn-in items for Thach Jerden's armor is very nice. They've changed alot of shared tasks, so I'm not sure which ones are still good to do, if you can. But you probably wouldn't be interested in those anyway, as they require a group.

That's about all I got atm. Hope it helps some.

Try out Ruins of Illsalin and see how that goes. Also undead in Direwind might be possible with a merc, and that is a hot zone.

You'll find lots of info here: http://crucible.samanna.net/index.php in the Paladin forums.

Also double check whether you have Deflection as a discipline. I seem to remember it coming out during SoD (lv 81-85 era) but it is level 59 and very useful.

Feel free to reply in this thread if you have specific paladin questions. Welcome back!

Welcome back.

I dont have a Paladin class character yet. But as Yther said the undead camp in Loping Plains (the one at the Chapel-just south of the "Hills Of Shade" zoneline) is a popular spot for Pallies at 80-85.Sometimes I used to take my Necro and then SK there to aaxp from about lvl 77 for my Necro and from lvl 80 for the SK till about lvl 84.On my server, the spot is popular among Pallies and sometimes soloing Clerics as the plat per hour is decent also.

All of the skeletons there are lvl 77-79 (which is the highest lvl trash mobs in the zone-most other mobs are in the 75-77 range, alligators are all lvl 78).
So if your at 3100ish AC you might want to single pull one to see how easy or hard it is to mitigate their damage. Dont pull the cleric skeletons yet if your having trouble killing the warriors/wizards though, as they heal themselves when they reach below around 50% health and if your dps/undead aas are not enabled yet it might be a long fight. There are two named that hit a bit harder and sometimes they respawn quite fast :The "debilitated skeleton" and the "decrepit skeleton".

In Hills of Shade, the undead camp is by the Graveyard. It is another common Pally/Cleric xp spot from around lvl 83. Not many other classes seem to go to solo/molo there, as these undead("a risen ancester" iirc) cast a stun/spin spell every so often which makes it difficult for many other classes to effectively xp at that camp. There are also some other undead mixed with other mobs in the tunnels to the west of the zone in. The same tunnels where the Crystallos access quest task takes place. I am not fond of that camp as my SK had gotten gangbanged by "risen ancesters" and other mobs in there when he had just turned 85 Smiley: bah.

Your at the perfect level to easily acquire a major boost in gear. This is the HOT "Abstruse" line of gear .If you are in an active guild ask someone if they could make it for you otherwise you could purchase it in the bazaar. If plat is tight at the moment, you could purchase the HOT low level "Terror" gear which sells for as low as 1000 plat for some pieces. "Terror" visible gear is 850+ h/m/e.

"Abstruse" armor ( lvl 80-85, 900+ h/m/e ) is the way to go though, as it will get you to lvl 90(~1600 m/h/e) via HOT progressions upgrading of the gear. Also, at lvl 80 it is even more of a power gain over previous 80 group gear. For example, SOD's top tiered group gear for lvl 85 was in the 750 h/m/e range. At 80 your gear will now be superior by around 150 h/m/e per piece = win.Smiley: smile

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks a lot for the advice everyone :)

I ended up heading to LP, great AA xp, I'm getting roughly 1 yellow a kill. Can Molo pretty well.

My Slay Undead is maxed out so things are going great haha.

Unfortunately did just get ganked though.. :X

I do have a Pallyish related question, How many AA's should I have before I start leveling again? I want to be well decked out AAwise, so I just wanted to know if there was a good ball park.

Thanks a lot in advance for the help!

As a War I shoot for around 1000-1200 at 80, depending on how long I can take it, and if I'm maxed on defenses. That's me though, I like AAs. Octavia is a bit worse, she likes to make sure she has anything that is useful at every level, especially at grinding levels, like 65, 70, etc. It maybe class difference though. She usually has more as a Ranger at the same level.

What I try to do if burning LOTD is go all aa for that, then I switch back to leveling for a bit. But then all my toons are under 80.

Even at level 80, Splitpaw Lair is still a great spot to grind out several AA's. It'd be easy kills with decent loot, and it's a great place to get reacquainted with an older character. Be warned that the XP will be terrible if you go into 81.

Great news, old friends are still playing and I was never kicked from the guild I was in... they like to keep old members around.

I have made about 150ish aas so far, and have found some great places to farm with my guild (old friends in raiding guild, so they're busy haha)

But I have some of the HoT gear drops, and replaced most of my gear now :)

Anyone got recommendations for AA development for me for Tanking/Dpsing on undead?

I have CS/CA maxed for my level
Slay Undead maxed
Weapon Aff maxed

Any other Tank/Undead AAs I need to be aware of?

Also got Hammer of Greatness for DPSing https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=93609

and Jumping Axe https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=90228 and some shield for tanking..

-Shield Block will give you an extra avoidance check
-Armor of Wisdom will boost your AC and although the change may not seem significant, it helps a great deal
-Level 1 of Knight's Return Strike counters mob riposte
-General Sturdiness is a good base hp boost
-Max out Blessing of Life - it's quite powerful
-Steadfast Will 8 makes you immune to melee stun

You can also work your way through the innate stamina lines on the general tab for a bit more hp, but I would work on the core abilities first imo. After you're done filling out the pure tanking stuff, I would look at heal aas.

Good to hear that you're having a good time.

I generally go with Natural Durability and Physical Enhancement before General Sturdiness as the benefit is more per AA than GS. At 80, your base HP should be around 20K, probably around 30K if you went with the HoT group armor, so for rank 3 of ND, you'll get 2-3K more HPs for only 12 AAss vs 120+ AAs for GS rank 20 to get 2K. I'm not trying to desuade the purchasing f GS, but simply wait till ND is maxed and PE, because you get some much more effect per AA and the amount of the effect keeps increasing as you level vs. a fixed amount.

You probably don't need the Innate stat AAs, as they only raise your stats, if you're not maxed, and with today's equipment, it's pretty easy and common to be maxed. Planar Power line first, and then the HoT+ specific stat cap raising AAs (i.e. Dreamlike Fortitude for Sta) will probably be better ways to go. The innate lines are good if you're not maxed however. You can check by removing an item with a stat you want to check and see if the stat goes down the same as what the equipment lists. If it doesn't go down as much, then you're maxed for your cap. The innate resist lines may be helpful, if mobs spells are landing much and you're not maxed on them. I think it's at least 500 at 80 for resists without MPG group trials or other resist cap raising effects, but I could be off. Resist buffs will let you know if you're maxed or not, if you get anything from the buff, or near max if you get less resist change than what the buff lists.

I'd also suggest all of the Shield lines of AAs, Shield Block, Shield Specialist, etc. I personally like to keep all the Regen and Mana Regen AA lines maxed as well, but some people don't put much emphasis on them. That's about all I got 'cause I'm not sure which of the others are ranked for a Pal. I'd image the 2H AAs are excellent if you use a 2Her much (they're great for other classes), and Triple Attack may be good as well, especially without a Flurry line of AAs (unless they added some in the most recent expansions).

Hope this helps some,

Yther Ore.
