I haven't been following closely (having not played a bow-using class in years), however I'm under the impression that something funky has been going on with quivers and bow haste for some time.

Since my brother and I just dusted off a bunch of old rangers on FV we noticed we have a few options already in our inventory (note both quivers are tradable on FV). So given the choice which do we want:

Fleeting Quiver

or

Jewelled Quiver of the Hand

Back in the day Fleeting was better, but I've seen recent posts on the O-boards calling the JQotH the best pre 80-something quiver --So I am confused.

Our rangers are going to be sitting at 70-75 for a bit, so if there's another quiver we should be going for, feel free to mention it.

Haven't been keeping up, but did read somewhere that it's somewhat fixed now. Anyway, here's a link Whitman provided not-too-long ago on the subject: http://www.eqoutrider.net/eqforums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5204

Personally, I don't even use a quiver any more, since I rarely bow only stuff, and if I do, it's for Headshotting, which the proc rate is modified for haste items. Thus, it's still the same amount of average procs per minute, with or without a quiver, and you get more real storage space with a non-quiver container.

Also from what I've heard, when it was really messed up, it depended alot on the bow delay and quiver combination. So, if you're really into using one, I'd recommend using a parsing program, and going to the Luclin Scion which are invulnerable to attacks, and don't attack, and you can arrow them a few 1000 shots, then divide the total fight time by the number of shots to figure up the average delay, for each quiver you want to know about, and no quiver also. It takes a little bit of time, but not too long. Last time I did it, with 2 quivers and none, all 3 with Haste, without, and with Haste + bard Overhaste, and it took about 2 hours, but a big part of that time is waiting on a free bard to group with me for 15 mins or so to do the parses. This was several years ago, and I think before the quiver debocle (sp?), and with a slower bow, which even after the ***** up, most said quivers actually helped. Anyway, I got similar to traditional results. More wt reduction resulted in faster bow shots.

EDIT: BTW, the JQotH is a pretty easy quest, if they want alot of money for it. Need 4 lungs from Shissars in The Grey, then turn-in to a Katta Castellum NPC. Fleeting Quiver is pretty much worth 4K+ due to the rarity of the Lion Skin you need to make one. Took me about 80+ hrs to get one (actually two, as they dropped pretty close together).

Even with “Endless Quiver” you should use a quiver. Best in game now is Prescient Fleeting Quiver: (crafted) https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=89583 and always use two arrows one in ammo slot and other in one of the quiver slots. (gives the haste for the quiver or in another words the link to give the arrow and bow its speed) best buyable arrow in game atm is CLASS 8 Steel Braxihorn Arrow: (crafted) https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=100047 as you level up with Ranger you will need the extra slots for a lot of CLASS 3 Wood Silver Tip Arrow (range 50): https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=30324 They will be consumed with some of the Ranger spells when cast. And have to agree with Yther. the Lions skins are the pain....and you will need 2 for the Prescient Quiver.

Fleeting quiver is not that hard to get, once you find the placeholder lion. I got about 4 skins in 3 hours of tracking, but then I may have been lucky. Just follow the hints on the ph in the quiver write up. (Or is it the mob write up?)\

Don't worry about the silver arrows. The first spell that uses them isn't until 78 anyway (and that one only works on summoned mobs).

Plus, they are VERY situational, and most rangers don't even use them. Although, I will have to check on the mob limitations, because I believe they have relaxed them some in VoA. But again, those spells aren't really useful until you hit VoA levels.

I will have to disagree with you Green Shag. I can easily go through 100+ Class 3 Wood Silver Tip Arrows in an outing. And while you are hunting the RARE High Quality Lion Skins you might as well craft or pay someone to make the BEST QUIVER…beside the speed is a big jump and always nice to have extra space. Never know when you have to give up some arrows to that lazy Shadow Knight or Warrior that forgot their arrows. And only the level 78 Deadfall is VERY situational. The rest are nice to have in your ********

Following are all the spells that use the arrows:
Level 78 Deadfall https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=15083 used as first strike. Non combat. Hits real hard. And on ANY mob.

Level 83 Heartpierce https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=19215 use anytime Humanoid forms: Goblins, Pirates, Elves etc. Used a lot hits hard. 2794

Level 85 Hearshear https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=19177 use anytime Humanoid & animal targets. Used a lot hits hard.

Level 85 Enraging Shot https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=19236 use anytime deals 2794 damage

Level 88 Heartrend https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=25463 use anytime hits for +10k hp

Level 90 Heartslice https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=25520 use anytime hits for 4610 Hp

Level 90 Infuriating Shot https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=25529 use anytime hits for 3995 hp

Level 93 Heartrip https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=28540 use anytime hits for +13k

Level 95 Heartslash https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=28600 use anytime hits for 6k / 4200

Level 95 Provoking Shot https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=28606 use anytime hits for +5k / 3600

Great answers all around... My brother is seeming very ranger committed so this helps a ton. My ranger probably gets somewhere in the 60s and then I will park him for another half-decade --but just in case you have all given me lots to consider. Thanks again.

Ya know Vinney, I will have to try them out.

If those humanoid/animal restrictions have been relaxed like you listed, then I could see them being useful. Also, I remember a lot of them being "opening shot only" and the main problem was that both you AND the mob had to be out of combat, which presented an inherent flaw when casting it against a mob that was tanked already. Or you could use it to to pull which was an even worse choice to make because 95% of mobs summon; so an initial cast of one of those arrow nukes would usually get you summoned into an angry pack of mobs.

I've gotten used to my spell lineups for dps using 4 elemental nukes and my usual utility lineup only having room for 2 nukes anyway, so I would usually just go with the highest fire and ice nukes.

I know I still have a couple stacks of the silver arrows in my quiver, so I'll have to come up with a lineup for them and try them out. You've convinced me to try them, Vinney. =-)

Try out Heartslash, it's the main one that people have been adding to their spell lineups.
