I tried every search I could think of, but could find nothing on this ancient topic: how do you put a key on your keyring? I have totally forgotten.
Use it to open the door it's for. If it can be put on a keyring, it will automatically go there. A few keys you get from quests go on there when you complete that portion of the quest that grants you the key (Crystallos an example of auto-keyringing, while MMM requires figuring out the key combination and setting it correctly and using it to get it on the keyring).

There's some (all the ones in Najena come to mind) that don't keyring at all. I get why the norent ones don't... but they really should put all the old permanent keys on the ring.
Tower of Frozen Shadow will update to the highest key you use on a mirror --so if someone keyed to the top takes you up to kill Tserrina and you loot a master key (and use it) you'll have max access. So there's quirks in the whole system.

Plane of sky ones don't. That's a royal PITA.
