Quest linesFollow

Hi
I am a returning player to EQ, after deserting it for EQ II and, I must say, it's GREAT TO BE BACK! It really is my kind of tempo, much more enjoyable than EQII which has become so complicated and which I never really got on with. And hearing the EQ theme again when I log in: FANATASTIC! Happy days are here again...

Down to businesss, however. One thing I miss though now is some sort of quest line for my mage. I am trying to use the search filter for Quests in ZAM but it doesn't work properly, when I start filtering it gives all sorts of weird permutations. The Arcane Armor set, for example, doesn't come up with a 'normal' search. Can any one tell me what specific boxes I have to check to find MAG quests from LVL 1 upwards, any zone?

Or is there a handy list anywhere of quest lines I can follow for a Magician?

Any tips, gratefully received. Thanks

Welcome back. In many respects there isn't a more complicated game than EQ...

Quests for the fun of questing from level 1 vs. quests you may actually benefit from the rewards are quite different.

Every starting city of a race that can be a mage will have mage-specific quest lines So if you search Erudin by quests you will find some mage ones for example. Temple of Sol Ro has class-specific quests, with the mage ones having stood the test of time rather well.

The Drakkin City of Crescent reach (and that entire expansion called The Serpent's Spine) has worthwhile quests all the way up to level 75 for all classes and there are even on the modern task system so they go in your in-game quest journal. The TSS quest lines obsolete nearly everything that came before it.

Global drops of tradable "defiant" armor have made almost all quests limited reward for effort in the modern game for those kinds of items. Plane of Knowledge also has a lot of quests for various levels.

Although the following post is mostly about Experiencing, it does mention some good items to look for. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1319126081222413981#6 In particular, are Pet Power items, and armor quests with clickies such as the TSS group (and even raid) armor quests have some nice clickies, especially on the chest slots. The same can be said for most, if not all, armor sets above TSS for chest clickies, and even for earlier expansions, such as the Anguish quested raid chest.

Armor lines and epics are the only class-specific line of quests that come to mind. Most other class-specific ones, are single quests.

Other than that, you might look at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1330859740259822995#3 for some links to other items that might be quested.

So true, on both counts. My enjoyment of MMORPGs, with EQ being the only one I played until recently, was questing, both for the fun of it as well as gaining better gear. Even then, you had to know how to start the quest (either by hearing other people/guildmates talking about it, reading online spoilers, etc.) or else just run around clicking NPCs hoping one would start a quest.

I'm now spending 99.99% of my gaming time on another MMORPG mainly because the quests are so fascinating. People enjoy MMORPGs for all different reasons so not everyone may enjoy questing, but for me, it's one of the reasons I'm not in EQ much these days. (Except I *do* want to finish the original Coldain Prayer Shawl quest.)

EQ will always be my first "love" of MMORPGs; just wish the focus hadn't switched to interminable grinding for AA points.

Thank you all for your replies and helpful advice and tips. I think I just had a surfeit of TOO MANY quests in EQII and was expecting the same in EQ. I must admit, when I first played EQ, ten years ago, I hardly bothered with questing at all. So I think I will just tackle the ones in my starting city South Qeynos first of all, just to get a taste of it. Too bad you can't switch off XP though like you can in the higher levels in EQII. I kinda like just dawdling along at my own pace and not being too worried about levelling.

Must...stop...comparing...EQ...to...EQII...

In EQ1, you don't have to worry about leveling too fast too much. With new gear at lower levels it's goes pretty fast, but still can take quite a while, if you don't use mercenaries. At 51 and higher you can put all your experience into AA which will really slow down your leveling. At 51-54 there isn't too many AAs to buy that are worthwhile, but by 55, then 59 there will be 100s of AAs to buy of anything that is useful and it keeps going like that until max level, needing many 1000 before you run out of things you really need.

On the other hand, if you want to level fast, it's definitely possible. I just prefer a moderate rate of leveling, working on things at the level they were designed for, and not waiting till they're trivial and you can blow through them. And, almost all EQ1 quests are generally very low experience, unlike EQ2, where you can level from just doing quests, even with mob xp turned off. There are some exceptions but not many.

Hope this helps some,

Yther Ore.
