Returned after leaving in 2003, a friend and I (I run 2 box) started back up about a month or so ago, went from lvl 54 to 66, going to sit at 66 or so for a while to get AA's. We pretty much had no armor and plat, but now have Elegant Defiant armor but are noticing when we get into the newer zones our level even with merc's we can get beat up pretty bad.

I know that we are getting close to upgrading our armor and I even tried to run the Evergreen progression to get tier II mercs, but LOL got smacked around pretty good...so, I don't even have a clue what to look for at our level, I see a lot of guides for higher levels (armor ect), but I wonder what I am missing or don't even know what to look for (at our level or near our level)...we are on the FV server. So pretty much overwhelmed with all the changes and if you folks can steer me to the areas to look, I would appreciate it. Have a premium membership here on Zam but as I said, not for sure what to even look for.

Thank you in advanced!

ps, servers back up! I can feel the shakes subsiding as I hit the log in screen :)

AT lvl 66 you should be using elaborate. IF you have elegant on its probably yellow and your not getting any stats from it? Everyone has there own opinion but personally when I started back up I went to 70 before stopping to invest time into AA's. At 70 you have a few more choices in gear. Also at that lvl The Hole is a good place to earn AA as stuff is lightblue but easy to kill and pretty plentiful. You can just jump in from paineel now it won't kill you like before.

Far as places to go there is a npc outside of the guildhall in POK that offers hotzone quests and recommends places to go as well as gives daily quests that reward you with a choice of belt, cloak, or shoulders.

Also there is a merchant near the soulbinder (straight out from him) that sells earrings/rings/face/neck items. Those are pretty good and can be bought for aroudn 1500pp each.

I took my 63 rogue/monk combo to Torden, the Bastion of Thunder, and found the exp there pretty good. As for the gear, just head to the bazaar and see what is available for cheap...I am on FV also, and it is amazing what cool gear you can get for very little plat. I came back and was broke, but there is still some cool gear for cheap, if you look.
When you look, go for the slots with no defiant gear first to upgrade, cause the defiant gear is still pretty good at your level. Hit up Graa or Surakor when you are on and I will help in any way I can...and welcome back...Smiley: yippee

Blackfeather Roost is another option. At 66 a small group can easily handle the first few levels (the zone is set up in tiered island sort of like the old plane of sky, but the key-quest is permanent so you don't have to carry keys around).

BR is a hotzone at the moment.

The harpies have some special effects (such as a knockdown that you have to stand up to escape from).

The named hit hard (i.e., cunning mountain puma) but the regular mobs aren't hard.

My necro spent an age in this zone 65-70 because it was so good for AAxp and vendor drops. This was before it was hotzoned for even better xp.

Also, make sure you rank up Combat Stability and Combat Agility AA... they make a huge difference in the earlier ranks.

SoD was released and raised the level cap from 80 to 85. So trying to do the progression at level 66 is a bit of a stretch. I could see pulling it off at level 75, but at that level you might need a bit of luck to complete a couple of the missions.

It just so happens that at your level the merc is no longer as overpowered as it was while you were leveling.

Thank you Friends for the information!

I will have to check out BR, I kind of by-passed that zone. Also thanks Snailish about the heads up on AA's, I had started adding to Combat Agility and will make sure I do the same with Combat Stability.

yenwangweh, funny you mention BoT, we got the key to do the towers and and while we survived a few pulls, decided they would get to live another day :) Figure we will need to get up to 70 or so before we can have a chance to do a bit more exploring in the tower part and even then might not be able to do the mini-bosses.

Thought as much Wayen about that progression, will just have to wait. It didnt take us long to go from 54 to 66, will just have to decide if we want to stay at this level a while or go up another 5 levels or so.

Thanks again!

Like a few others here, I'm also on FV. If you need any help or advice, just send a tell to anyone in Maxim (/w all maxim) and you'll get me. I may have some stuff you can use since I pretty much strip and regear my characters when I move them to the server. Got a ton of muramite runes (minor all the way up to Glowing & Ancient) in case you might have use for them. Save some dosh on spells. :)

Remianen, thanks for the info, that is another example of what I do not know, I didnt know about turning in the runes for spells, dang, that would have saved me a ton of plat. I have the quest up and will look it over and figure out where to hunt for them. I see they are named's so will see. I looked in the bazaar, and they seem a bit higher than the spell cost, but as with many things I have notice on FV, sooner or later someone has a great buy :)

I guess another thing to ask for a link on is the rank II spells, it looks we have a bit to go before we can start looking for them but would appreciate a pointer where to look.

Thanks again!

May I ask you if you did this with kiting or pet-tanking? I have been at BR with my nec now for soem time, dinged 59 last night but in The Steppes. I moved out of BR since the bears/pumas/snakes wasn't taht great anymore. I tried moving to the harpies but always ended up with adds or got jumped when trying to kite there. And even with healer merc the pet had trouble tanking one, even worse if a add jumped in. I think I will stay in The Stepps untill 65 and maybe then go back and give BR another go since I keep hearing about the fab aaxp that is given there, just need to figure out how to get them :)

Rank I spells are the base spells and (most of them) are available on the PoK vendors (up to level 85) and zone vendors for the expansion. Rank III spells are a bit stronger versions of Rank I and they tend to be random drops from mobs. Rank III spells are a bit stronger versions of Rank II and they are acquired through raids. Just go to the Database > Skills/Spells section of Alla and just look at the higher level spells for your class. All three ranks of each spell will be listed in the sort.

Check the bazaar for Rank II spells before buying the Rank I version from a vendor. Many times they will be substantially cheaper in the bazaar.

For armor progression (from an earlier post):
Elaborate Defiant
Elegant Defiant
Non-visibles from Dragonscale Hills (DSH)
Althai, Othni (level 71+) quest armor from the Blackburrow, CT, Unrest, and L Guk temp revamp (two zones active now).
Look in the bazaar for cheap non-visible upgrades.

I seldom pet tank --thinking back 1-77 (where my necro presently sits) I almost never bother... but I tended to lean on the rogue pet vs. warrior anyways (always seemed to sit at a level where the rogue was the higher level pet available to me).

The last place I tap-tanked (that's the necro tanking with the pet just assisting for dps) for xp was Halls of Honor as a hotzone, they were lb and I could mow them easily with a healer merc out. I might of been level 70 for that though.

Blackfeather Roost I kite 40s-75 (though best under 71 in my experience). Aggro kiting works wonders in here. As far as the harpies go, the 2nd harpy island with the nobles is much easier to kite without adds as you can work from the perimeter without to much wander on top of you.

My druid on vox has been root rotting (slow) in Blackfeather Roost and letting a merc tank kill (pretty fast) since early 40s --pretty sure I'm at 55 on that character now so that's 15 levels in the Roost.

Having said all that... if you can handle the Steppes it is fine too (also a hotzone). Personally I find mob behaviour, adds and such more of a hassle there, though I have spent a fair bit of time killing various animals in the south end of the zone, as well as earth elementals.

At 59 you have a couple of good older options: the murkgliders in Noble's Causeway and the fiend camp in Plane of Valor. These two camps are probably very open and are great if you want to stop somewhere before 65 and pile on a few AA.
