With modern gear (defiant alone) you'll max out stats at a very early level.

I put all the points I can into STA and usually toss the remainder (if any) into agility.

Now, if you are playing on progression pre-LdoN era content you might want to take more care. Luclin-prior gear would leave stat-holes and required decisions. Looking back, I would still stack STA for most classes. Bard benefit from CHA, but it is generally easy to pile on.

Unless it is a progression server I wouldn't really worry about it. With defiant gear every stat will be maxed by 40ish anyways.
