totally at loss, all of a sudden cannot login to eqFollow

from one day to the other I can't get into EQ. I run launchpad, it patches, it goes to a black screen, it then tells me I got no internet connection, then it asks me to login, I do and then it simply freezes on the 'logging into server, please wait' message.

Anyone got an idea what the heck is up?

(eq is set as an exception in my firewall setttings, I did not install anything new or set anything differently)

Thanks

Might check the Support forums on the EQ site at http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/ There's a recent developer post about crashing at character select that your problem might be related to.

I had this problem, this is their solution.
Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. Please disable any security software (anti-virus/firewall) temporarily, and try again. If this does not help, follow my instructions below to power cycle your modem and router. The next step to try is to bypass your router and connect directly to your modem. If still unresolved, please follow my second set of instructions below. Finally, if the previous steps did not help, please re-download the LaunchPad from www.soe.com/getthegame , run the file as an administrator (by right clicking it then clicking "Run as Admin"), and choose to "Repair" your installation rather than creating a new one. If you have any more questions or concerns, please let me know.

=================================================

You may fix the issue by performing a power cycle.

1. Unplug the power cords from your modem and router for 2-3 minutes.
2. Plug in your modem (the box connected to your wall) and let it boot up completely.
3. Plug in your router (the box connected to your computer) and let it boot up completely.
4. Try launching the game again.

=================================================

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files:

defaults.ini
eqclient.ini
eqgame.exe
EQGfx_Dx8.dll
EQGraphicsDX9.dll
eqlsClient.ini
eqmain.dll

Also, back up the character configuration files by following these instructions:

<CharacterName>_<ServerName>.ini (example jack_bristlebane.ini)
UI_<CharacterName>_<ServerName>.ini (example ui_jack_bristlebane.ini)

One or more of those files may be corrupt, causing these issues.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Only solution I found was to download the EQsetup.exe from EverQuest website and do a complete 7GB download / new install, plays fine after that. Just rename your old everquest directory so you can retain some of the character config files for reuse. open a command prompt and do a copy *charactername*.* to a temp directory, then copy those to your new EQ install directory. Copy your audio trigger .wav files over, and then the files in your old /userdata directory.
