My 65 mage is still here from 9 years ago! :D What to do...Follow

I had completely lost track of EQ over the years and actually thought it was shut down a while ago, so I had written off the idea of ever playing again as a lost cause. All those good memories would stay memories, and life would go on. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that EQ was in fact still around, thereby allowing me the chance to relive some of those memories, even it was just roaming around killing a few monsters here and there.

So, my question to you all is: What on Earth should I do? The game has changed so much since I last played (which was back in the PoP days when I believe 65 was still the max lvl). Even the vendor purchased gear for like 800p from PoK that I noticed yesterday is better than a good portion of my raided gear from back in the day. So, I'd like to get a few upgrades and go out solo'ing, as that is generally what I like to do. However, I have no idea where to solo anymore. Is it even worth it to still elemental charm things in PoP, or are there better, less stressful places to solo for a 65 mage with 60 AA's? I don't really feel like 2boxing with my Shaman (even if I could remember the account name for him).

Anywho, if anyone has any advice that'd be fantastic. :)

Thanks a bunch!

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=117337801626907618 has a dogpile of good info, but mage stuff I use:

Mage Tower Returning FAQ I refer to all the time http://www.eqmagetower.com/wiki/ReturningtoEQFAQ

Defiant armor will be better than anything you have (99% of the time). Look for deals in the Bazaar. You want Elaborate Defiant (req 59, rec 70). Buy what's cheap, you'll be replacing at 70.

Also do Frankin Teek's dailies... get plat and armor that will be awesome. You can do more than one level a day (level 55, level 60, level 65 for example). This will get you free belt, shoulder and back items.

The vendor items are really nice.. and not cheap. But nice!

Big list of pet focus levels and items - http://eqmagetower.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2789 - again, 99% of the time what you have can be easily improved these days.

Enjoy!

One the best things a returning player can do (I did this when I came back this year after many years gone) is to start a new character and and take the tutorial route where you start in the underground prison (I cannot remember what it is called) The tutorial is great and will quickly re-teach you the things you have forgotten and it will teach you some of the new things like mercenaries also. You can very quickly advance to about level 10 if I remember right and have some fun doing it.

I had so much fun I started 2 new toons fresh and I am taking my time leveling them up at my leasure. Gaining levels rapidly is very very very easy at the lower levels now.

OMG I remember staring at my magic book to meditate and getting whacked by idiots training spectres to the docks in Oasis. Ah those were the days!

Yes. I started with a level 1 Mage that I had made but never played and a level 1 Wizard. They feel more natural than my Necromancer (with over 300 days played) does now.

I personally skipped the Tutorial (Mines of Gloomingdeep iirc) and just started on the Hero quests in Crescent Reach. I remembered doing the tutorial when it was added. I do agree that it's a good way to learn how the game plays.

Yeah, I had started a wiz and ran through the tutorial before I remembered which account my mage was probably on. It definitely helped to get back into the swing of things.

I just did the level 55 hot zone quest, but then it wouldn't let me do the 60 or 65 ones as you had mentioned Felicite. :( Says I need to wait another 16 hours before taking another quest like this. Oh well. Time to continue exploring!

If you havent read, then re-read, the thread here for returning players, and the did you know comments.

At 81 I can request at the same time, the 60, 65, etc quests from Franklin, without getting the wait message. Perhaps that is something new? Or you can try requesting the different tasks together.

This was a revelation to me when I read it yesterday, and I've been doing these quests on and off since 2009! But I tried it last night, and it worked, I did 7 of them. The key is to request them when you're not on the timer. The timer kicks in once you complete one of them. So once one is completed, you can't >request< any more for 18 hours.

I'm level 86, but I don't imagine the mechanism is different for lower level chars. The limitation for them is that they can't request the higher level quests.

Welcome back. At 66 use your air pet it's awesome. If you need pp you can hunt gargoyles in plane of nightmare. Save up your pp and buy https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=83984

Hire a cleric merc to keep you and your pet healed. You can buy mana regen potions in pok around shammy alchemy vendors.

Have fun !!!!

Thanks for the tips! I figured a lot of them out on my own once I got used to the feel of the game again, but the returning to EQ article was definitely very handy. PP seems pretty easy to get these days, what with selling defiant armor drops and all. Fun times.

The trick to getting multiple quests at once is to request them all at once, before the request timer that's in the top-right corner of the quest window hits 0. I had gotten the 55 quest, went and did it, then came back thinking I could get the 60 quest. :(

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :)

Hi Kazekan, my friend and myself came back about 7 months ago, went through the same thing you did, was on the PvP server, moved over to Friona Vie, was very glad we did,. Having a friendly population and a thriving bazaar has made it really easy to find items and gear up, expecially since I had let a diferent friend use the account and the char was stripped, haha. Did the lower level armor quests just to get somethng to wear and it didnt take long to have much better equipment. I doubt that we have a clue of all things we are missing, but we are having fun and thats all that matters!

Welcome back!
