Fine animal pelt - good spot to farm? tailoringFollow

Hello, trying to raise my tailoring and Fine animal pelts, or silks, are needed. What's the best spot to farm these? I see them listed on alla, but tried a few spots and they don't drop that often. At this point it seems it may just be easier to farm plat and buy higher tiered pelts/silks and just go that route, but more expensive.

No they are not common drops. You have to play in the higher level zones with animal mobs. If you used the zone guides on allak after searching on fine pelts you will just have to stick it out. You could send an in game email to a trader who has them for sale asking his source for pelts or go into barter mode looking to buy them from other players.

Thanks! There isn't an abundance of them on the market so wanted to try to farm them myself, but thinking it would take to long. Seems easier just to buy higher tier, or whatever I can get my hands on and just use what I can. I may try bartering though.

Actually, they can be farmed quite effectively, if you know the secrets :) I happen to have found some relevant info recently, which I'll share.

Short story: HoH is a good place to farm these.

Long story:

Go here: http://www.kyros.info/Tradeskills/cultural.htm
props to Kryos from EQTraders, who assembled the info (and figured it all out for all I know :)

Anyway, that chart shows that fine pelts are most commonly dropped by mobs which are level 58-62 (the ones in HoH are almost all in this level range)
On top of that (quoted from the site):

Mobs have an additional 6% chance to drop an item from the next-lower tier, and a 2% chance to drop an item from the next-higher tier. Humanoid ratios are

2 silk : 1 animal pelt : 1 ore
and
1 fluid : 1 marrow : 1 loam.

Humanoids can drop any type; spiders drop silks and fluids; animals drop pelts and marrow; and golems drop ore and loam.

So, if you haven't been hunting humanoids or animals, your chances of getting any are zero :(

When I farmed some in HoH recently, I was seeing one drop per 6 or 7 mobs. So your farm rate will vary, depending on your farming toon.

The chart was helpful. Knowing the level range is good... I see why it's listed as a drop on so many mobs now lol.

I tried HoH and 1 out of 6 is probably pretty accurate. Decided to try PoV since I know there are spiders in that area, bit better drop rate there and the spiders drop pelts too, heh. Centipedes and golems around the spiders also drop with a bit lower drop rate.

Thanks for the chart!

I got LOTS of them from Crypt of Decay, too... off of rats and puslings. Great spot if you can kill lots (headshot, swarm, etc).

After maxing tailoring on multiple characters (as well as several other tradeskills on various characters), I can say without a doubt the place you'll want to 'farm' the silks is in the bazaar. The honest truth is, if you want to finish tailoring in any kind of reasonable time, it is practically impossible to farm them all yourself.

I know this isn't exactly apples to apples, but I kept every gem I came across for 6 months before attempting to max jewelcrafting. I only collected enough gems to get to around 240ish. And that was after using vender bought recipes to get to around 200ish. I ended up buying about 600 blue diamonds from the vender to finish up.

If you are fine with plugging along at a snail's pace, then the suggestions above are all good choices.

The difference is, there are no good places to farm the gems you need for high end JC (uncuts, raws, etc). For silks and pelts, they drop on certain mob types, so you can restrict yourself to those types. That speeds it up considerably.
