Newb looking for advice on choosing a classFollow

Hey all,

I was hoping to get some advice on choosing a class. I generally go with a ranger/bow user in these types of games (and I have currently got a level 5 wood elf ranger named Erania), but I would love to get some opinions from experienced players. Below are the criteria I'm looking for in a character.

- I'd love to play a character that incorporates a lot of movement in their combat and has the ability to kite. So a class that has lots of abilities that can be used on the move.

- Ability to solo well

- I'd prefer a class that does most of its damage from range

- I don't know if this is even an option, but if a class has ground targeting that would be a plus.

- In general, I'm basically looking for a class that has a bit of an action feel while fighting.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ranger might be good, but you might prefer Necro even more.

As far as I know, there are no "ground targeted" spells in EQ. There are AoE targeted spells (you need a target, the AoE is around that mob), and there are PBAoE spells (point blank AoE, centered around you).

You may even consider a Magician..A basic strategy: Send in the pet to tank and establish aggro, then you nuke the mob down from a distance while healing pet as needed when soloing..Very good solo class also.

Good luck.

Yeah, Mage probably solos better than any other class. I just didn't mention it before because he really emphasized kiting and movement. Necros are pretty much the kings of kiting and ranged DPS.

Eventhough I'm with Kaolin on how great Rangers are, I wouldn't really recommend them as their kiting dps in EQ bites. You lose alot of the special ranged bonuses Rangers get by moving or the mob moving (or being rooted for that matter too).

Other than Mages and Necros, Wizards kite alot, and Druids can, but they do better quadding by snare, root, dot, dot, dot, but they can kite descently as well.

Wait, wait, wait, wait....rangers loose the archery damage bonuses if they shoot at a rooted mob?

Because it was suppose to be changed years ago, and developers even said they were gonna change it either for moving or rooted or both, so they still got the bonus, never has been implemented. :( So, I guess it's another one of those dirty little secrets that keep getting swept under the rug. (That was just for the conspiracy theorists out there.)
