If memory servers, those are mobs that debuff you right? If so YES... If not ANY MOB that debuffs you.

Let me ask something about the Roost first level because now I'm curious. When I first went in I'd go over to the ledge there and wonder where it went, I had levitate so thought you know "well, normally I can't just die from falling in this case" but there's just something intimidating about ledges. But I saw what looked like islands in the mist and was like "What is that?" So at one point I'm knocked off the ledge and am floating downward amd I freak out thinking "what if it just kills me?" like the game is just "oh you'er so high up your die anyway even with levitation" and so I hit a Yonder spell just as a last effort not to die, and I appear and I'm dead but it looks like I'm near water with islands, or mountaintiops, not far away- but it's something about A TRAP in the text; death by trap of some kind. So I'm like, "does this mean I die if I go over the ledge?" and I never tried anything afterward since I didn't want to risk dying again "there goes that fool leaping off the edge again"

So what happens when you go over the ledges here?

When TSS was live I swear that I remember once levitating my necro down to a pedestal/Grand Canyon-like rock safely, then realising that I was trapped on this little island I gated out.
This was from the first level near the teleporter to the 2nd level. But every time I ever tried to levitate a character down since, the character died before even reaching any of the islands/rocks below...and I got the loading screen...

Can't remember ever getting the gust of wind effect but it sounds Interesting. Hope someone finds out what triggers it..

Yeah right now that you mention that I seem to recall that there were two times I went over the ledge; the first time I had no gate-type spell memorized and so I just drifted downward and I thought "guess we're finding out what happens..." got the loading screen with the "TRAP" text and reappeared at the succor point in the graveyard.

Then I got knocked over a second time, had the Yonder spell memorized so cast it while I was floating downward as a last ditch because I remembered I only had a short time, and I appeared standing somewhere, with what looked liked islands in the mist/clouds but I hadn't died. I was glad not to be dead so quick abscond to the succor point- and that is where I started wondering if the was something there that you could get to, and if the "TRAP" part that got me was a "you fell to your death even though having levitation" or was genuinely just a trap that I somehow hit, but there's a path or something you can levitate to, etc. But the risk seemed too great

Speaking of, the original (un-nerfed) phase spiders from Dragon Necropolis. You'd get hit, shadow-stepped onto a bone pile and now your group had a sweet dragon skeleton thingie to fight as well.

Really no comparison. In classic days Plane of Fear raids were often once mis-step away from a complete wipeout leading to an insanely long and tiresome recovery. That made the scarelings particularly hate-worthy!

I was thinking last night about what classes of mobs are the most hated. I think I got it down to enchanters, clerics and wizards.

Enchanters have to be the worst, with their abilities to charm, mez and dis-spell.

Clerics are hate-worthy because of their healing powers. How many remember in the old days the nightmare of having beaten down a mob in a long fight to near-death and a cleric mob complete-heals it back to full so you have to start over again, In the days when mana pools were so tiny that could lead to the whole group being OOM and disaster.

Wizards, I'm thinking back to festering hags in Unrest, the one mob in that zone we always tried to avoid. A hag could burn down a player in one or two shots and the memory of hags in the background of a fight preparing to nuke one of the group still haunts my EQ memories. LOL

Wasn't trying to directly compare. Obviously I've been on both PoF raids in the old days and DN groups. Still, my first time in DN, I died on the first 3/3 pulls due to phase spiders so they stuck with me.

Lol I remember after the war there was an Enchanter Raid Mob up in Gfay still that had some pretty epic loot. I had just got my Mount (Paladin AA, "I could always outrun her...") and thought if things got bad I'd be able to book it, since the zone was now a graveyard and I was the only person there. First swing I took she charmed me.... I sat there for about 3 minutes, she recast the charm, and then I dc'd.... hardly the worst time ever, but most definitively memorable.

Cleric mobs do totally suck though

Annd I remember those hags, they were quite an unpleasant bunch... After I got into the 80s and was soloing in Loping Plains though... the wizard skeletons there were always my first targets, 2 blasts from Slay Undead and they were gone... with most of their spells being resisted.... mwahahaha.

Yes I believe that is the exact view I had from the rock (closest rock to the teleporter on level one). Mist or clouds at and below the level that I landed at iirc. The rock had a perfectly flat surface.
Picture a pedestal like island with a flat surface in the middle of a deep gourge in the Grand Canyon, except you cannot see the bottom of the gourge much because of a layer of clouds blocking it...

The mention of the chromadrakes reminds that I wanted to see if they give a message, I can make an Audio Trigger for. The problem with dispells, is you don't notice till almost all of your buffs are gone, if it's mobs like Chromadrakes that chain dispell.

The most hated NPC I have ever seen was Holly bloody Windstalker and her brother Cros Treewind. When my barb warrior was a newbie I would join my friends in Q-Hills and some times just have the bear agro on me and here come death on a nature freak. I still make it a point to go to Q-Hills and kill Holly when I can. I actually celebrated when Cros died years ago to some plot thing. Also when I was playing EQ2 for a while I made it a point to hunt down Holly's ghost and **** on her gravestone.

Dorn in North Ro (is he even still around?. And Gix? Ksomthing Gix in East Commonlands. Both were ridiculous undercons. I remember the first time I ran into Dorn (actually, a group of us ran into him). It's like "Oh. There's a blue bandit, let's kill him.... thwack... thwack... crunch... smack... OW! WTF?". Later on, I did make a point of killing those two whenever I ran though their areas. Haven't done so in ages though, cause who runs through those zones anymore?

Dorn..... I was new to EQ and was taken to Oasis to hunt crocs. I had no idea where I was, lol. I had to log early, so was told to keep running North, zone a couple of times and I'd be in Freeport and from there I knew the way to East commons where I had been "living". Over the hills I went, then, like you, WHAM. LOADING...... Back in GFay and totally not sure of what happened or where my corpse was. A Druid had said EC was a better place to XP than GFay, which it was as I kept getting lost among those trees, and had ported me to WC and escorted me to EC. Read the log file, figured out what killed me and from there searched the internet to find out how to get to my corpse. After a long boat ride and a much more timid run South, I had my stuff back. Didn't go back that way for a long time afterwards.

Dorn B`Dynn (and I thought it was Dvynn, like I thought it was Kizdan) was annoying too, but I quit travelling through his roaming area. Gix on the other hand, ran right up to the merchant area all the freaking time, and close to the zone line to EC where I was always hunting wisps. Even met him exploring WC on the west side once. He was everywhere! But mostly, around the merchants and to the east a bit and close to Befallen also.

I can agree with Grimmy. He was the mob that taught me to always pay attention to my surroundings. I'd be kiting a griffenne and here comes GrimFeather, trying to block me. Chromodracs were always mana murderers. Like, we'd buff and port into Skyfire to go to Burning Woods to do Ixiblat Fer and undoubtedly, someone would run into a chromodrac and lose an important buff. They never strip the useless ones (like KEI on a rogue/Warrior/Monk), always the haste/hp/ATK buff.

Many good mentions. Just thought I should note, I dislike Frogs too, but that's more of a racial / genocide / look / feel thing. Think of it like this. I'll wear a Brownie illusion, but still want to kill them all, but won't a frog one.

Same. I won't wear frog illusion because I hate how they look and I "grew up" killing them (Upper Guk, Lower Guk, Sebilis). I'd sell all of my Iksar Hide masks too but no one wants to buy 'em.

Not most hated, but definitely the coolest , quirky one. Early EQ, there used to be an invisible mob coded "pain_and_suffering" that would slay you when you were near fatal hp, dotted, drowning, etc. Very rarely you could accidentally target this mob, but never sure if you could kill it.

I still see this reference today! I think it's some kind of "in joke" by the devs they trot out on rare occasion when a player is about to die.

As always, thanks much Yther -- been out of the game since 06 and was wondering what the LoN/Loot Card thing was about. Apparently kicking my account back and going gold entitled me to some of these and I was just completely unaware what to do about them.
