inventory box colors

I've just noticed that the chest area inventory box has a yellow highlight. What does it mean when I see this?

You're too low in level to "use" the item or an augment in the item. When it's highlighted yellow, you derive no stats (AC, +hp, resists, etc) from it. I believe that since augments affect an item's required level you'll lose the entire effect of the item even if it's just an augment you're under-leveled for.

For the sake of added info, if it's purple than either the item or an augment is prestige (and you're not) and you get no benefit from it. In the case of prestige augments, you only "lose" the augment power, the base item still functions.

Yeah. Yellow means you're too low level to use the item. How this happens is that you add an augment to the item while you're wearing it (cause you wouldn't be able to equip it if you weren't already wearing it). I ran into the same thing a while back. In my case, it was a pair of +purity augs, which could only be removed with perfected augment distillers. Yeah. That was an ouchie mistake.

Thanks so much...yep, that's what I did. I added an augment then lost a level and fell below 20 which was what the augment required. Good to know that I was able to retain the basic benefits before the addition and I will soon be back to level and not so jaundiced. LOL
