The week of February 3rd, 2014 we will be making a very important change to Gold Membership in EverQuest. The current benefit of receiving 500 Station Cash (SC) monthly will be replaced with a new benefit that allows you to select one single item valued up to 2000 SC each month. Nearly all items within the games’ Marketplace will be available for this selection. Player Studio items, bundles and additional exclusions may apply. This new benefit must be claimed each month that you are a member as it will not carry over to subsequent months.

Personally, I liked to bank the 500 a month towards services like server moves (I have abandoned characters in odd places). Now I won't be surprised if "services" (or some of them) is one of the big exclusions in this new method.

I also think this is in prepration for "heroic characters" as done in EQII. Heroic characters are insta high level (not quite cap, but withing grouping range of it) with AA and gear ready to handle the content. I think in EQII they cost 3500 station cash (for each character you steroid up to hero status).

So this change would prevent slow accumalating towards that as well. This is my conspiracy inference at least.

Yep and sadly, No more saving for a few months to buy the 32 and 36 slot Rucksacks etc. So as it now stands, an account would have to pay for the SC to buy one 32 slot bag which is more than a months subscription for gold status. Meanwhile the drop rate on them is very low it seems.

I hope they adjust some higher priced items (ie the Rucksacks) and services below 2000 SC to at least make them available in this new system with the new changes to gold account bonuses.

I'd be surprised if they dropped the nice stuff to 2k or below, the aim of the change i think is to specifically price the desirable items out of the 'free' purchase range,

'Nearly all' as they put it is a very subjective term and no doubt wisely chosen.

I have 8k SC unused on one account and nothing i want to buy, but have other accounts i'd gladly burn it on but no way to transfer it. ths would be something i'd have like to see implemented if for nothing else than to buy exp pots and bags for my alts account. i paid for the SC btw and theres no way i'm buying more for the newer account.

Apparently they're sorta kinda not going to do it -- note #3 (apologies for formatting on my phone) from the forums thread:

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. We listened.
Here are the basics of our revised plan. Please note - we have not had the time to do estimates of the work involved, and also we're continuing to listen. so this isn't baked just yet. Do not expect that this is all going to happen immediately. We plain don't know yet. we're doing that meeting tmw.
1) We're lowering the price of All Access to $14.99 2) We're going to make it so every subscriber to all our PC games an all access member. Basically there will be one SOE membership for our PC games. Please note there are some minor restrictions around our kids titles (simply put - if you're a 12 year old who signed up for FR you won't have access to the adult games so we'll likely leave the lower priced kids offerings as separate subscriptions for under 12 for the same low prices). 3) We're keeping the 500 SC included with the subscription instead of going to the "pick an item" system. We heard you. You didn't like the change. The only change we are making is that we're now going to make you claim it monthly. You can still hoard it though :) I realize this is a bit of a pain but honestly it's the best compromise we could come up with that solves the problems I mentioned in the other thread. 4) we are going to be giving our members a 10% discount in our marketplaces. 5) European players - we have an idea on how to include you in this but we need to discuss with our partners. We have a pretty good idea on this though. give us a bit of time to suss this out. 6) Nothing is changing with Player Studio items - you'll still be able to buy them with your 500SC. 7) Console titles - you'll notice I only mentioned the PC titles. Our goal is to include the PS3 and PS4 games that we have, but I want to be up front and say that isn't a done deal.
In a nutshell that's where our head is at.
As always your feedback is welcomed. Please do us a big favor and carefully think about #3. Our goal is to give you more value in the subscription to make it more attractive and making it simpler in the process.
I really feel like we're making a good decision going this route. It makes things simpler and gives more value to our players.

Thanks
Smed

ummm this makes no sense.....it sounds like we cant hoard it if we have to claim monthly??

p.s. it doesnt make a differance to me i view the monthly sc a perk and dont really spend anything in the store because i feel there arent quality items there other than maybe xp pots....ever since they took out the paying of subs via SC that became a problem for me anyway... hope you guys like the change "they listened" lol

I read the change (good on them for listening) as "your 500 SC perk will now be an item you have to login to marketplace and purchase for zero SC, otherwise it will expire until the next month rather than just being autogranted to every sleepy account"

An unnecessary change in my view, since the "sleepy accounts" are paying to be sleepy as it were. Would be another matter if the free accounts were involved.

There's precedent of other marketplace items with zero cost (an xp potion iirc) that you can claim once (per character or account I am not sure --would be nice to see that go once a month available...).
