Again thats why I think them being spirits and not animals is better option. Plus think of it as them requesting help from the Treant like race to help. It makes more sense.

the fact that all the other warders are animals and they are infused with the spirit the Beastlord chooses. not the spirits getting infused with spirit. Shamans have a spirit warder, they worship the spirits hence the spirit wolf. These are beastlord, they are the Lords of Beasts, they should be dominant over beasts not trees spirits or whatever..

What if we think of Nature and the trees becoming Beastial....... we dont know what type of model is going to be used yet. The Warders may look nothing like a Treant... they may be a beastial version of the trees's anger and so may appear to be beast like. At this point we do not know. I say we wait and see.

Like a Hawthorn?

There's lots of angry shrubbery in the Serpent's Spine expac for what it is worth lorewise.

I am the Lorax, I speak for the beast... trees... the beast-trees...

The black wolves of GFay would be best except that'd step on Barbarian toes. My solution there is to change Barbarian warders to mastodons Smiley: grin

Ogres have bears. If barbarians had bears, ogres would need to change to... ummm... the fish from the Feerott Smiley: grin

Now, ogre beastlords could have say a Halfling as a warder. Ogres already treat other sentient races as "beasts" (there are Halfling corpses hanging from cooking racks over fires in Oggok). THAT would work much better with lore than treant warders for wood elves.

Also, who says two different beastlord races couldn't share the same species of warder? Yeah, it's more interesting to vary the animals but not de riguer.

Ogres could have a brown or grizzly bear and the barbs could get the arctic or polar bears. easy as cake. Smiley: grin

If you're doing that, you may as well have barbarians keep the white wolves and wood elves get the black ones.

Kinda. I'm assuming they got the entire idea for the beastlord class from the film Beastmaster (and wasn't there like a TV show as well?). Point being that he didn't control or command animals. They liked him and chose to help him out. So the warder isn't summoned so much as is your personal animal friend who chooses to adventure with you. There's no reason why a Treant couldn't make the same choice.

I dunno... every treant I ever saw seems pretty aged, grumpy and independent. They're like pissed-off old men, cuz they're all 100s or 1000s of years old and who ever met an old man who was thrilled to hang out with, and be at the beck and call of, a young "whippersnapper"?

Well, once again the difference is that the treant is sentient so having one follow you is more akin to having a kobold or an orc or a fairy or a brownie following you around. Treants aren't "beasts" even if you ignore the plant/animal difference. If wood elves had those Erollisi Bloodthorn whatever plant thingies from Kunark following them around, it would make more sense to me (aside from the geography) since a mobile yet unintelligent plant seems more "beast" than one that's intelligent.

I'm reasonably certain that from the Treant's point of view, there's a wood elf following him around.

I recently returned to EQ from a long absence and would have loved a DE Ranger. The WE BST leaves me cold.

There's a world of philosophical difference between being a PET and being a SLAVE. One of the major differences is that the slave is biologically the same species as the "master" (or in MMO game lore, the same intellectual LEVEL in terms of species/race) and hence being a slave is a burden that denies his deity-given rights. Yeah, it's a funny joke to consider that the intelligent "slave" treant may act as if he's the master and the wood elf is his slave but it's not so funny when you consider what slavery really is. Slavery still exists in the world today and I doubt any modern-era slave is ever likely to make the mistake of believing that it's HE who is in charge of the relationship.

I'm not trying to get overly-serious here by bringing RL woes into an on-line game discussion, But I do so to demonstrate that Sony devs have entirely missed the point and messed up game lore big time by adding intelligent beings to the stable of creatures that can become warders for beastlords.

The irony here is that the "standard bearers" for maintaining and protecting such game quality issues these days are old-time players and not the game designers or administrators. I realized this the other day when I noticed in general chat that EVERY single character arguing over the latest issue of the day had a name which in the old days would have led to a GM either changing the name on the spot or suspending the player for blatant violation of rules. Every name either violated some real world copyright or trademark (ex: "Justinbeeber", "Wallterwhite"), or used some illusion-shattering potentially annoying or offensive combo or words (like "Isellforless", ""Hobiitzrule") or were just plain obscene, using strange combinations of female body parts (I won't give examples in the interests of decency!) and similar terms having nothing to do with fantasy gaming.

Whatever happened to standards? Smiley: bah

LOL
