I like that they are cheerleading the fact they are giving me access to Vanguard... right close to when they kill it for good.

Separate departments making decisions and not talking to each other I am thinking.

Also thinking:

They must have done the math on their monetizing schemes (station cash) and see more upside to getting everybody on one sub and hopefully dabbling in more than that person's tradional core game. They're reworking the "hook" as it were.

Getting unrestricted access to EQII without paying any extra for example, might make a person willing to drop $10 on some xp pots.

I'd think that internally they would see via billing that many people switch between games but suspend subs (I know some). So it would depend how many people actually carry multiple gold subs in a given month to different games as the economic argument against this change.

Thoughts?

I was getting concerned that the "other shoe" was going to drop in some form of cancelling or cutting back on subs prepaid way into the future back when you could use SC to pay for your sub. But somewhere I saw an official comment that the current expiration date of any extended prepaid sub would be preserved, just expanded to cover all the other games for which an EQ sub didn't formerly provide access to. That sounds like we're REALLY getting something extra for our money, whether real cash or station cash.

I found that rather strange myself. Why hype a soon to be dead mmo?

I for one never gave SOE any feedback.

Yeah, must be weird to log into VG just about now. I'm almost tempted to dig out my old login info and check it out. Strikes me this would be like RL on Earth if they announced a gigantic asteroid was heading for a civilization-shattering collision with Earth in three months. I always picture the result being a global version of Airplane, when the flight attendant announces a serious problem with the flight: the passengers start screaming, running around like headless chickens and attacking each other. Very funny LOL.

I played on City of Heroes towards the end and it was mainly people trying to enjoy the last days by running task forces they hadn't tried, spending time in favorite zones or hanging out in the main meeting locations with costume contests and general banter. Market took a bit of a tumble though as you realized that your billions of Influence and ultra-rare Enhancements would be worth nothing in a few days.

I played City of Heroes near the start, but could never get into it. The griefing was horrible. Memory is bad, I don't remember what I played. I just remember it was a female char dressed in a suit, carrying a briefcase and everyone kept asking if she was a lawyer. Smiley: lol That in itself should have been scary.

Without a doubt, they have people doing that. As you pointed out, they must have projected that people would spend more SC if they had free access to other games.

This makes complete sense to me. Way back when, before they went F2P and you still had to buy the base games and then expansions, I made the suggestion that if someone was cancelling EQ, they should give them the option of trying another one of the SOE games for free, and if they stayed, they didn't have to buy the software. Don't like EQ, then try SWG, MxO, EQ2, PS, etc. THe idea was to keep them in the SOE family of games.

You know, this is probably going to workout in at least some cash for SOE with those of us curious about the grass on the side.

I've never tried EQII - I might now that my Station Pass is good across all their games. Yes, I'll have to pay for the game software, but that's not a significant enough amount to deter me.

At the risk of a derail, I'm honestly scratching my head trying to figure out how one could even be griefed in that game. The only common content was street sweeping, which was plentiful and not super valuable. I suppose someone could killsteal your monster or something, but that's a tiny portion of the game. Everything really valuable was instanced in CoH, and nothing could ever really be taken from anyone. Maybe you're thinking of a different game?

I downloaded EQII for free directly from sony a few weeks ago. I don't think the fact that I had an old account mattered? (I don't remember telling them it was "me" until after I downloaded).

They've done tons of stuff to it since I last logged in... ...and this is speaking as someone that didn't get past level 6 on a new character lol.

Really? I thought they charged for the game software. Hell, if I can DL it for free, and then play it as part of my all access with this new move, that'd be pretty cool to see if I want to dip my toes deeper into it. TY for that heads up Snail.

That's pretty cool. I'd love to see SOE get their claws on a few other games now. I've been thinking about FFXI lately. One password (and payment) for all the games I've played would sure make me happy. Thanks for the info!
