How to kill azure SkywingsFollow

Ok, rolling thru Veeshan's Peak with 75 warrior, 75 shammie, 63 druid, and 3 tier 1 mercs ( 2 dps, 1 healer ) and came across Azure Skywings. beat on 1 for 15 minutes and it continued to complete heal itself, no matter what I hit it with. Had to evac to clear agro.

Now, I can invis thru them, but the wryms see thru and it can lead to aggroing these guys. I am not worried about wiping, but cannot get to dragons carrying these "unkillable' mobs.

What am I missing? Is there a strategy to these guys that I am missing. They seem to have unlimited mana and my dps is pretty strong with DOTS and mercs and my warrior hits pretty nasty...any help would be appreciated.

The dragons here are the only old world ( up to Velious ) that this crew has not killed. Want to try, but getting frustrated.

Thanks in advance for advice, good or bad...Smiley: sly Smiley: grin Smiley: sly

Hey Yen,

The second and third post down sorta discuss -- albeit very briefly -- an azure skywing. I note one mentions something abou tusing dispell, so maybe they've some sorta HoT that can be dispelled?

My plan was to make a Mag and faction him up, then run him to my dragons and coh, then set a campfire and log in the different toon on that account and port to the campfire to do the kill(s).

Don't know if that really helps. It was just my plan a while back, that I never finished. Never made a 3rd account until f2p.

I never did much in VP myself to help out on strategy. I'd imagine chain stuns would help alot. It's a good technique for other CHers.

Dispells usually work, 'cause Clerics hate to be without buffs, and will waste time chain casting to compensate for the dispells. Used to use that technique on the Frostcrypt raid's clerics. Should of remember that :(

I'll be damned. That's why it works! I've used dispells as a pull for multiples that I know will bring a healer type mob and it never occurred to me to put 2 + 2 together.

Interesting on the dispells...

...would they waste time cleaning off/curing silly effects as well? I know my old enchanter had numerous debuffs I seldom bothered trying to use in regular combat.

The leadership ability that lets you see what the enemy is casting is nice too... makes timing stuns (if the mob is in fact stunnable) better.

Awesome guys, thanks...will try the dispel. I know that they CANNOT be stunned, as I had stun weapons out and with each proc it said the "mob cannot be effected" or whatever that is...just like you cannot change the run speed of mobs in there ( ie, snare can not land )

Will try this and report back as to what happens...ps, wonder if druids get a dispel...Smiley: dubious

I vaguely seem to recall that even if a mob can't be stunned, their spell casting may still be interrupted by stuns. Or maybe that was just my imagination. Um... I do know that there are abilities that specifically interrupt spell casting instead of stunning (higher level variants of the pally divine stun, the names of which escape me at the moment).

Also, push should work as well. So piling pets/mercs on the mob might be able to interrupt. Actually, I'm also not 100% sure push will affect mob casting now that I think about it, but I do know that you can interrupt their spells with any sort of melee, so more melee is always good. Also, CH is like a 10 second cast, right? So maybe just go all out once you see the spell cast message. I know that we managed to kill these things all the time way back in the day when the max level was 60, so it's absolutely doable.

Push works -- Spirit of Wind lvl 51 BL warder buff procs Spirit of Wind Strike that has a really annoying pushback effect. It does, however, not only a phenomenal job of interrupting casters, but also knocking them right into the aggro assist range of their buddies if you're not careful...

Oh yeah! I remember now. I used to use the line of stuns that had a knockback effect. IIRC, even if the stun didn't work, they would still get knocked back (obviously unless they were also immune to knockback, but that's usually restricted to boss type mobs). Fortunately, those didn't tend to knock things back that far. I distinctly recall using them for this very reason in HOT (the one in ToV). Sucked really really bad if a mob gated. Like, camp the clerics while the raid force gets summoned one at a time to some random back hallway bad.

Ok, so with the new Leadership AA,s I was able to see in fact that these dang things had a buff on that kept them healed...so once I hit them with cancel magic, they were super easy to kill....

I got so excited I killed my way to Hoshkar https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=5097 ....and just pulled that sucker....

Needless to say, without proper buffing and any kind of strategy, we wiped....Smiley: lol Smiley: glare Smiley: lol

Not sure that a 75 warrior, 75 shaman, and a 63 druid could do it anyway, but will try again tonight ( if he is still up )

But so nice to get past those dang Azures....thanks all for advice and help...why I love Alla's

Lol! That guy was pretty much the only thing we absolutely couldn't take down back in the pre-pop day. Actually, I don't think my guild *ever* took him down. By the time we probably could have, there was no reason to deal with VP anymore, so we didn't. Nice to know he's still a PITA.
