I played a bit! First time in ages (aside from a little quest with Videri a while back). Must get value out of my gold sub Smiley: laugh

It was quiet on Cazic Thule server (in guild, not the server it is busy), but I think I managed to login around 5-6 different mutants and their playtime.

I did a little bit of messing around on a new mage. Not sure what my current goals are in game.

Real life has been frustrating at work (and busy) but pretty awesome on the personal front if I step back and appreciate it.

It's been too long since the last update. How about anyone/everyone drop a line and say what is up lately?

You saw the lego movie? Cool (I loved it, still have my 1980s spaceman minifigure).

I've been playing on Test lately. Got Yther to 85 finally. Need to grind / explore some more of the new content. I've traveled to a few new expansion zones, to discover if I had maps or not and get them installed.

Actually playing has taken me away from working on the individual AA pages as much, but I still try to do a few every few days to keep it going. Plan was to be finished by end of March or April, but if I keep playing it may take longer.

I know everyone probably watched the Olympics. I didn't this year, but I usually don't much of the Winter ones anyway. Hated that all the networks suspended new episodes during them. Normally there is something although little new in Feb.

Real life is what it is, real. It's not horrible considering, but I've not had any great moments for a while either. Enjoying playing EQ; it has been fun. Leveling seems slow molo, but I'm probably not pushing myself hard enough, or keeping upgraded enough on weapons. Last group I was in, Archery appeared to out DPS my melee weapons. Melee seemed terrible from what I remember. Fully buffed, I remember used to hit in the 600-1500 range all the time, not mostly 3-600 hits, and archery went up to 1-3K most of the time, with a few in the 100s. I should download a parser and look into more. Maybe later this week, when I'm not so busy with RL.

I still need to try out Headshot with the new rules. Although I was in a group with another Ranger a week or two ago, and they didn't proc very often either. Not like the Berserker that was in the group, that proc'd alot.

I'm babbling on about much of nothing again; so, I'll leave it there and say how wonderful it is to hear Snailish's real life is going good, and that he got some time to spend in Norrath.

EDIT: Lego movie along with several others, like the upcoming Deviant look really good and hope to see them soon.

EDIT 2: For those lacking math skills, and don't read the recent wiki changes, here is a chart for grouping levels from 1 to 100: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Grouping_Level

Logged in about six times over the last couple weeks, a definite improvement over the holiday season. I have been gathering aa's on the Barren Coast. The zone seems mostly occupied by me at about 8 pm MT.

I have captured a couple aug upgrades and so far one neck upgrade.

Real life: It is cold as hell out tonight, with plenty of wind. Is okay though, I am at work tonight.
I put a new set of tires on my scooter, brakes were okay, throttle cable adjustment, changed the oil...
I have a training class in Sac second week of March...It may be pushing it a bit weather-wise, but I aim to two-wheel it from Co to Ca on the 8th of March.

I am going absolutely nuts being on four wheels for the last three months.

On Thursday, I finally got my new desktop (a Dell XPS8700) as my old faithful, a Dell XPS600's motherboard fried in more than one spot on the board and the cheap laptop I used in the interim could not run a 24" monitor effectively for my mains account (on board/integrated graphics card).

So I set it up, d/loaded EQ and it works great. I noticed that you do not even need to download the d3dx9_30.dll file separately as it comes through the EQ patcher now ,which is long overdue but kudos to the developers for that. Better late than never.

Otherwise in game on the weekend I spent most time resetting my UI, hot keys, spell sets etc on each character ( a major task on my mains account with a lot of my more developed alts). So not much battling/questing etc last weekend.

In Real life, its carnival season here (Trinidad,West Indies) so every night Monday to Sunday is festivities, costume/mas shows, music, parties and heavy drinking non stop for the whole nation. Hard to ignore and the climax is next Monday and Tuesday but it will all end on Ash Wednesday (next Wednesday). So from next week Wednesday things will return to normal here.

Played the most I have in awhile...

Loaded the Cazic crew ( war,sk,rogue ) and did Lower Guk ( see thread ) went from high 30' to 45's...love that zone like no other....

Played around with a dwarf pali, druid, monk combo but might just transfer a dwarf cleric/dwarf warrior I have on zek...some of my oldest characters so might be fun

Played on Fv alot also, in veeshans with my shaman, war, druid ( see thread Smiley: sly ) ...got the skywings, but not the dragon...Smiley: grin Smiley: oyvey

also messed around with a cleric rogue monk combo I have there, and they are pretty pimped out...was fun

lastly have a froglok wiz sk combo ( sorry Snail...Smiley: sly Smiley: nod )..rolled thru howling stones with them...loved it!!

Real life...track season started and I have 300 kids out for the team...will not make many cuts, love track because you don't have to be good, just have to be willing to try. Because you get timed ( or measured for jumps ) you can always get better if you work hard, and not being amazing doesn't affect the rest of the team. But that means I now have 2 full time jobs and not alot of EQ on the horizon...

Do you know you can copy the character files from your old hard drive to the same directory in your new install and get all your UI stuff back in a snap? Should be able to just plug in the old hard drive and windows should automatically mount it and assign it a drive letter. Then it's just a matter of browsing to the correct directory (don't ask me specifically where it is, but it's not hard to find once you've found your installation directory). The files are just text files and should have the character name in the file name.

As for me, I tried out the autogrant thingie on a couple characters. Not a huge deal for me. Still think it's a bit much, but whatever. Been trying to nail down the timing on VS so I can pick up the last piece I need for my Wizard's epic. This is turning out to be a royal pain in the butt. You'd think this guy would not still be perma camped, but it appears that he is. In theory, having a server shutdown should give me a good idea when he'll spawn next. The problem is that the last several server shut downs have been at times which place the probable VS spawn time right in the middle of my work day, or a family party, or whatever else that I can't do and play EQ at the same time. Frustrating as hell really.

They should seriously make old epic mobs spawn like once an hour or something. There's literally zero reason not to. The "challenge" should be taking down the mob, not waiting months for the mob to be up at the right time.

I also seriously need to scope out a new hunting spot for my Paladin. At level 90, the village/beach in HoS is still working great, but I'm starting to feel like a zone disruptor. Did a LoD run through there, and basically plowed through about a third of the village (working my way around clockwise) and I get a tell from some guy apologizing for pulling a mob from near me (I honestly didn't see or notice). He's like mid 70s and with a friend and their mercs pulling to the near hillside. I told him I'd leave the village to them and go tear up the beach (there was no one else in the zone thankfully). I then proceeded to run the entire length of the beach wiping out the undead fishermen. I ran out of them to kill. Then started pulling the back side of the village (cause the two of them were not killing more than the front half of the village tops).

It worked out, but if there's more than like one other person there (or there's one person who's closer to my level), it's not very effective for me cause there aren't enough mobs. When there's no one else there, plowing through high volumes of lt blue mobs is amazingly good exp. But if I have to go roaming around looking for mobs it's not so much (and I hate competing for spawns with folks, just not worth the stress). I suppose it's off to Feerrott to kill rot dogs and/or gorillas. It's a pain because they're a significant step in terms of time/difficulty (but still quite doable). There's no much in the way of good undead camps in between.

I said this about mobs in EQ2 as well. There was one early event (quest) that almost everyone did, but the respawn time was days. I spent like 2 weeks in that dungeon waiting to get a chance at the spawn. Just saying it's bad in other "easier" games. There were worse too, as that was a group mob. Some raid mobs took an inordinate amount of time to get to spawn to finish a quest for them, and by the time you could, they didn't drop any chest loot 'cause they were out of the experience range. Time sinks everywhere if you want to pursue them. :(

Yes Thanks, I vaguely remember reading about that option sometime back but never actually did it and am also reluctant to open my brand new CPU (toy) hehe. Old habits or superstition I guess.

Come to think of it after what you've mentioned, in the future I might even be able to copy the UI files to a flash drive like what I did for the maps from one of my other accounts laptop. As Mapfiend was down when I had tried for the old world maps. I hope it was only temporarily down.

Edit: At lvl 90 your Pally would love the Feerrott Dream undead camps. The Undead Gorillas (86 mobs iirc) a bit North to NE of the RK2 spell vendor or NE of Rathe Mountains zl.

Or for a slightly safer camp you could go near the north east corner at the Undead Frogloks camp..those are all 85 mobs.

If the old computer won't boot up (to copy to a flash drive), then $20 or so will get you a external HDD case to put your old drive in and make it a USB 2.0 external drive. Just an idea. Something I've been thinking about doing since I got lots of HDD now compared to boxes / CPUs.

What!!!??? You haven't even opened the case? You're temping fate there! A new computer demands a blood sacrifice! Open it up, cut yourself on something sharp in there. The computer gods demand it!

Oh. And wave a rubber chicken at the insides as well. I don't know why it's important, but it is.

Yeah. That's even easier. Assuming your original computer can even boot up, copying all your character and map files is a great idea.

If it's not, or you can't anymore, (and you're still afraid to open the case), Yther's suggestion is a great one as well. The nifty thing is that assuming you can get one with multiple internal adapters (SAS, SATA, or whatever), then you can re-use the case with whatever internal hard drive you might have in the future (like say when this computer fails you down the road).

Good idea. I had planned to "eventually" take the old h/drive and put it into another old cpu (windows xp era) that still works and ill retrieve some other personal files and images from there. But that is an easier solution if I can get the external HDD case off the shelf here.

Sadly, the old computers motherboard is fried and machine wont boot, so I'll do as above and remove the drive because there are also many EQ images stored on that hard drive. Almost 100% certain its SATA type which is common and is compatible with the old desktop.

Thanks to you both for the options and help.

Edit: ....and the part about the blood sacrifice and waving the rubber chicken inside the CPU from Gbaji ! lol

I can assure you that those are industry standard techniques for ensuring proper computer operation and maximizing MTBF for all hardware involved. It's in the small print, trust me.

Thanks ..Got one for under 25.00 USD on the shelf...No fan but SATA and IDE HDD compatible. That should do the trick for me though as Its just to transfer the files I want.

Thanks again for the heads up on that option.

Haven't played EQ1 since last April, but have played a decent amount of EQ2 since then. You guys were mentioning the good traffic on the forums for this site, I wish EQ2 was the same. Forums are totally dead there.

I saw the announcement of the AA granting, and the April auto-Station Pass change. So when April hits, and I'm Gold in EQ, I will log in my Druid from 2000, who's still only level 87 with ~2400 AA's, and see how many I get. Judging from the posts I've seen here, should be in the neighborhood of 4500 :)

The Station Pass change should get me playing EQ1 more often (well, "at all" would be more often, LOL). Hope to see some of you in game, and will start watching these forums again!

EQ1 chars are all on Tunare (Seventh Hammer originally).

I like EQ2. It doesn't have the depth of EQ1, or the history (for me). But for a casual play style, it's terrific. For me, EQ1 became a "multi-box or get nowhere" affair, whereas EQ2 can be played with just a single char and a merc, and you can still make progress at a decent pace.

I played EQ2 for about 3-4 months at launch, about 3-4 months when EQ2x launched, and about 6 of the last 10 months. I feel it's improved quite a bit after each of these times.

As a professional geek, I can in fact second that. However, this should only be performed by professionals.

Well, holler when you come back. I have some guys "sitting" on Zek that I am wanting to transfer, so would be willing to have some guys there to group if we happen to be on....

and might try EQ2 again a little...been years since I last played....

If you do come back to EQ2 (and it's also F2P now, so don't have to sub to play), I'm on the Freeport server. I play evenings (usually after 8:30pm) CST (I >think< that's -6 GMT, if you're in Europe).

I'll post on here when (not if) I start playing EQ1 again :)
