Frustrating weekend. My level 44 Bard spent the whole weekend standing in Plane of Tranquility trying to up his Stringed Instrument skill. Still not maxed as I type this. The other thing that I have noticed is that almost every instrument I have seen in the bazaar has no level requirement listed yet shows as a red title and is not useable on the Bard. Even his Vah Shir class quest Drum of the Jharin Recruit is not useable. What is going on here? Are a lot of Bard instruments broken in game or am I missing something? This is my first Bard played and although he is 44, I still have only scratched the surface on this class. I created a Heroic Bard on a F2P account, but have only run it around in low level zones so far until I get a firm grasp on the class. I fully understand some of the problems Heroic chars are having finding groups. Even though I have played this char to 44 with no power leveling at all, I am still very much a Noob with this char. In no way am I utilizing it's full potential. That will take much research!

Yes, the lack of level on the bard instruments is because they are probably twink gear from the old world era, that can be worn at lvl one. Some years back they put the skill/focus for bards on the armor.
Even some common "defiant" plate visibles has some bard focus listed on them iirc.

I checked bazaar on my 47 Vah Brd and had no problem finding stuff not red. All the red stuff was level required above mine or maybe a diety restriction (I only checked a few instrument types).
As far as skill ups, are you using low level songs and like Hexeez said, look for Focus Effect: * Resonance ## for mods. The higher the number the better. Also, as said, most defiant visible pieces have resonance focus effects.

Most likely, if everything was red, it was due to checking on low level trader character, instead of the actual bard.

This drum is part of the ongoing Vah Shir class quests. My Bard is a 44 Vah Shir and cannot equip it. Many of the other instruments have no required level either and are not able to be equipped.
Got an aug in it? I don't see any reason you shouldn't be able to equip it as a Vah Brd.
EDIT: I spent some time working on it. Gave up after getting the 3 scorpion shells. Not sure without more info why it's not working. Have you checked other items in the bazaar, with string instrument types?
EDIT 2: You're not shrouded and not realizing it are you? That'll make stuff that should fit appear to not any more.

No aug. I see no reason, other than a bug, why it can't be equipped either.

Yes I have. There was a dearth of instruments available, but most of them showed as red titles, thus not equip-able. I was going to /petition the char, but checked my 21 Bard on another account and it was the same. I will check on the Heroic Bard later when I get a chance.

No shroud either. I have been /bug'ing this for over a year, no action as yet.
EDIT: Here are the Bazaar results at the moment, less Defiant gear. There is only one instrument showing green and equip-able.

I went and had a look at this quest, and noticed that when I did this quest, the lute WAS equip-able on my Bard at that time. It was NOT equip-able on my PL'd level 21 Bard on a silver account. Since that time, I allowed my gold account to drop back to silver for a couple of months due to personal issues. I recently brought it back to gold status. I wonder if that dropping to silver was responsible for not being able to equip this and other items????
Edit 3: Just tried equipping the red title items, and they equip, the title then turns green and remains green after returning items to inventory. WEIRD!
Edit 4: This is indeed a strange occurrence. In inventory or while searching the Bazaar with both primary and secondary slots full, many instruments show with a red title. If you empty both slots, the items still show as red, but are equip-able at which point the titles turn green. They remain green when returned to inventory, but turn red again if the primary and secondary slots are again filled. This is a real problem when searching the bazaar for items which may or may not equip when purchased. Very, very strange!!

Very strange. Definitely a bug of some sort. I had checked on a Silver account and live server.
At least you can use the stuff. Hopefully they can figure out what the problem is.
