As I'm playing an old Sega RPG on an emulator, I keep thinking when are they going to patch xyz to make it more in line with other characters? Then I have to remember that I am playing a game from the early 90's that was on a console that had no internet connectivity. It made me think that I take for granted patches that can update the games we play today. If something is broken developers can usually fix them, though sometimes other things break in the process, but for the most part we have it pretty good when it comes to game updates.

Has anyone else played an old game recently and thought "Man, I wish they would fix xyz"?

The flip side is that developers tended to spend more time/effort making sure the games were as bug free as possible prior to release. Console games especially. Of course, the bugs that were in the games were pretty much there for good though.

Yeah, in the olden days they'd never ever release games with the kind of bugs that get past in-house "alpha testing" like today. I'm sure the budget-minded supervisors are pushing the devs to "get 'er done" and taking comfort in the fact that if something seriously wrong gets released, well we can just patch-fix it.

Not a good approach for a professional programmer but it's all about the Benjamins!
