Krono prices...Follow

Hey all :)

I'm thinking of returning to EQ1 for a bit (been gone a little over a year), and was thinking of going the Krono route for going Gold.

I noticed something surprising last night.... in EQ2 on my main server (Freeport), Kronos go for about 2900pp on the broker, and there were a pretty fair number listed. On my main EQ server ("Tunare" - Seventh Hammer!! :) ), they were about 850Kpp, and there were about 5 listed in the Bazaar!

Now it seems that the EQ side is a lot pricier (I know 1pp EQ != 1 pp EQ2), but a factor of almost 300 to 1 is quite a bit! But is that just due to the relative lack of Krono in the Bazaar, or do you think other factors are at work? Just curious what people think.

Also, does anyone get by staying Gold using Krono? Doesn't seem possible to me, short of turning it into a full time job.

Thanks,

Tat

Hi Tat,
I had some issues with my account updating new cc date some months back and after petitioning the TSR answered and forwarded the petition to the accounts dept...After getting no feedback from the accounts dept. for about a month, I had panicked and bought a lot of kronos (15) across three accounts via Paypal at the time. About a month after, the issue was rectified and I had 8 or 9 left to sell.

This I did selling one at a time over the last few months and when I initially started to sell, the Bazaar price was around 300KPP on AB server..

A couple weeks ago I sold the last of those Kronos for 690KPP and it sold quickly, as the asking price in the Bazaar has now escalated to 740-800KPP..

I noticed that if I sell too much lower than their asking price, the krono sellers would come and buy it from me to resell at their higher price.

Also, when I was selling them within 50-70KPP of their asking price usually end game players (probably plat rich) would fly in and buy the krono within the time it took to eat dinner and return.

A link from an earlier thread on the subject : https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=138937401756412169

Only plat rich players could make use of it by paying with plat so they play for free technically. The Krono price in the marketplace is about US $ 17.99 vs $ 14.99 via cc for an All Access account.

Good luck..

It's not only kronos, the bazaar prices are crazy. I'm a very casual player and there is simply no way I can afford the bazaar these days. Either I spend inordinate hours trying for a drop or I do without. I am a member of my own guild and all of my guildmates but one departed for WoW many years ago. A friend is the only other regular member playing. I don't have the gear, the levels or the time to progress, so lately I'm only working on Epic 1.0's.

Every day I see the prices getting more and more out of touch. I am on Tunare also. One seller in particular is always 3-4 times higher than other sellers. I often wonder what that player's plat balance is. (He says while turning green with envy Smiley: lol).

What has happened is there is no way to get plat out of the game from players, so the price on Krono has escalated over time. Now, since that Krono price has escalated over time, the value of pp has depreciated even more since it has spread out over more players, so people charge even more for whatever they sell in bazaar to match the escalating Krono price and the depreciating plat price. I'm curious what will happen when we reach the theoretical 2mill pp price that any trader item can be in bazaar, we are not to far from that now.

In EQ2, I bet there is some way to atleast get plat out of the game from players, everything that takes plat out of the game in EQ is just laughable atm. The biggest problem at the moment is getting plat out of the game from bazaar imo. In EQ2 there is some fee charged for each transaction that removes plat from the game. In EQ1, there is nothing like that unless you have it delivered via parcel (10% delivery tax which is laughable also). As I stated in an earlier thread on these forums what EQ1 needs is a true auction house system, where there is money taken out of the game for each transaction between buyers and sellers, a tax if you will. I think you get charged in EQ2 for having a broker setup, or a trader setup don't you? Buyers should be charged %tax , sellers should be charged %tax.

The other problem is that practically everything in game drops so much vendor/tradeskill stuff that is worth quite abit of plat. You can make plat very easily at high levels currently, just by making sure you loot corpses. So plat is being continously introduced in the game, but not many ways to remove it.

Hope that explains it for you.

ON my server, FV, kronos have jumped up recently to about 1milpp for sale, and I'm not sure why. They were as low as 400k maybe three weeks ago. I suspect it's tied somewhat to a new xpac coming AND the return of college students, who now that they're back at school are abandoning the sybaritic pursuits of summer in favor of what's important in their lives: ON-LINE GAMING. Smiley: sly

Sure, you can support your "habit" using kronos bought in-game but it all depends on your level and how good a pharmer you are. I can earn 1milpp a month as a solo druid pretty easily on FV, especially if I keep a trader up most of the time. But it was easier when kronos were 400k apiece and it's much harder to keep a multi-box crew in gold just using plat-bought kronos.

I suggest factoring the monthly fee in RL cash into your entertainment budget and consider paying with kronos, whenever you're able to, as a bonus. Since kronos cost $17.99 from Sony, they're NEVER worth using for monthly sub if you have to buy them from "the mint."

SoE can remove plat easily from the game at any time by being the one putting up a trader selling Krono and then just destroying the plat.

Substitute Krono for any consumable/non tradable item.

The pricing of Luclin and LoY era mounts was a high-end plat drain as well (for a time).

I would suggest a problem with them aggressively trimming down plat in the past was that it created a market for plat sellers. Now we have an ancient game with players that have accumulated millions of plat on their own, and the legacy of people that quit passing on their stuff (happens often).

in game economy is a complicated web and pulling one string definately has consequences (recall the tradeskilled armor boom a few years back when that was the best option for many players).

Thanks for replies, all.

Sippin, I appreciated your comment about the Kronos being ~400Ka few weeks ago. That's about what they were when I checked them in the early spring. So I guess I should have returned a few weeks earlier :)

simple economics 101. Supply and demand....the buyers control the market...if something sell fast at a certain price then the seller raises it until it does not sell...competition sets in so if they don't go below a certain price and someone buys then the bottom is established. Only way for the market to go down is either sellers ignorance or supply is to high and nothing is selling. As prices go I remember 1999 or 2000 a fungi sold for 30k...when a mob just dropped a few gold this took a while to save up...now with higher level easy to farm and lot more plat they are selling, at least on Zek, for 19k.....101 supply and demand.
