It's been 10 long years...Follow

#1 Jan 13 2015 at 2:40 PM Rating: Excellent
... since I last logged into Tunare and get to play my first ever EQ character, a monk of course !

My, my, my... so many changes !!

Last time, Luclin was just rising above Norrath...

I had to train Sense Heading...

All gear I could dream of was Wu's...

Sorry to say that Sony made everything to simplifiy the game : maps, find command, Heroics... for the better ?

Unfortunately, I have lost all my other characters (Iksar monk, Bard, Mage...). However, this will allow me to go back down the tutorial in order to get commands back into mind.

One good thing though is all the 10 years worth veteran reward stuff I have gained...

But what really annoys me is the interface change. Where are my hotkey settings ?????

So... what should I do now ? I'm level 18, I got Wu's... where should/can I go ? What gear should/can I look for ? It seems that these days, everything is thought for the uber 85+ characters...

Thanks for you feedback.

I'll start off by giving the typical response.

Do the tutorial and quests. Wear the gear you get from the quests: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/search.html?q=gloomingdeep or the defiant from drops there, if better. It will likely put you over the Monk wt limit, but if you're using a tank merc, then it won't matter.

Hire a tank merc. Journeyman Tier I if possible. If not, highest Apprentice Tier (should be 5 on your account, if Silver and not Gold / All-Access). Let the tank do most of the fighting. They have low aggro until at least level 20, so pulling then running behind the tank is optimal. Wait till it's down to <50% before joining in.

Once done in tutorial, go to Crescent Reach and follow the Hero's Journey /achievement there for more upgrades and things to do. At 18 or sooner move to Blightfire Moors.

Use the Find (Ctrl+F) feature and maps and zone guide to help navigate.

Note: The Plane of Knowledge book is just South of the Crescent Reach zone line in Blightfire Moors, as I think the Find still points to the old position on the other side of the zone.

From here or earlier, depending, alot of options open up. You can continue to follow the Hero's Journey achievements, although some are not worth the effort (i.e. take too long compared to just leveling past them) and are not necessarily required, as the tutorial gear will take you to 50s without problem. Even Wu's is great until the 40s or 50s or even naked till the 40s as a Monk.

eqinterface.com has many options, including new versions of the old interface, such as Drakah's at http://www.eqinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=4615

get maps at mapfiend.net

The game is pretty streamlined to 60 if free to play, and 85+ if full access, with Auto-Grant AAs. You can go slower and even old world if you limit yourself. Otherwise, most of the time leveling is also learning.

Play how you enjoy it. Look for a good guild to join to help you out and answer your questions.

Do Franklin Teek (Find in Plane of Knowledge) daily hotzone quests to keep upgrading some pieces of armor and get some exp. Also do Secalna Galnor [Tutorials] (Plane of Knowledge) quests for some nice items and info.

Welcome back! And Good Luck!

Didn't see this one answered:

Hotkey settings are under "Options", Alt+O by default. One of the tabs there shows all of your hotkey settings, and allows you to configure them.

What is your character name and class? My main server is Tunare and I have a guild bank bursting at the seams. You would be welcome to anything you could use. Alas, I am now a one man guild. My good friend and guildie has transferred her raiding chars to Bristlebane...

Restart in Bristlebane and look for Taterkuk. Smiley: tongue

I spent 3 hours last night gearing a n00b, showing her around and, frankly, lecturing "Current EQ 101". Most fun I've had in a while, but, then I love helping so there you go.

My thanks to you all.

@KC13 : thanks for the offer. As my sig says, I'm Laeelane of Monk class.

@Friar Bijou : I may do that, thanks. I've been considering a Beastlord Vah Shir...

@Yther : Sorry, I didn't quite follow your advice... Seems to me that CR is a bit crowded. On the other hand, I've been exploring my previous hunting grounds (QH, BB, EP, WK, NK)... I'm the sole player there !! Where is everybody ???
Anyway, I heard that Nedaria's Landing was a fine area and I camped there for a while. Not crowded at all either... Thanks to the exp buff, I've made lv30 in a matter of days. So I'm wondering where to go next. FV maybe...

I won't use a Merc. It's not my philosophy and franckly... I'm a Monk !

I didn't know about the lv60 limit. But since it's going to take a bit of time to get there...

Thanks again.

If you haven't read the FAQ and returning player stickies at the top of this forum they can be helpful too. [edit: as Jonwin already said --I missed that?]

EQ hasn't done what other mmos have done and overlapped servers to create the illusion of busy low level zones. Most of EQ's actively playing population is within grouping range of the level cap. 1-85 is the current newbie grind that 1-20 was back in the day (hence heroic characters being set at 85). You could probably even argue that 85-95 is now a modern tutorial age.

Anyways there is lots of fun to be had doing whatever you want (even if that is solo monking in old content). Making friends and getting guilded are pretty key to staying interested at high levels depending on your appetite for progress. Mercenaries are game-changing (I avoided them for 2 years... if I came back now I'd probably not use them, at least to start. So I get where you're coming from).

Welcome back, and cool to hear your sticking with it a few months later!

Nice isn't it! Wish I could get my 10th. My main account has been "frozen" at 9 years 315 days for over two months now. All my other accounts are progressing normally, as are the accounts of several friends. The account in question was gold then dropped to silver just before the freeze. All my other accounts have always been of the free variety...
