I really wish they would have went with the server that locks at a certain expansion and just stayed there. Having one that locked at POP would have been cool for all the eqmac players who lost the server. Personally if I could choose I would love to see one lock at LDON. That gives ya POP for end-game content, Ykesha quality of life improvements and the good grouping content of LDON.

In any case I could see me coming back if they do open a new server. I figure it will prob be paid sub only but I might just be willing to do that. Guess it makes sense to make ya pay to use it since there wouldn't be any Silver restrictions lol.

A server that locks permanently at a certain level is a doomed server. Al Kabor stuck around because it was Mac client and Sony at the time tolerated a server with a permanently declining player base probably because of the storm of grief they'd get from Mac users once they dropped the server. Remember they provided NO support for the server so it didn't cost them much to maintain it. And yet they still dropped it eventually. Sony was aware that Mac users tend to be very vocal with their complaints about being slighted. (I'm always amazed when I see a few 1- or 2-star reviews for a software or hardware product on Amazon that otherwise gets mostly glowing 4- and 5-star reviews, the 1- and 2-stars are often Mac users lamenting the lack of support for their O/S. I can feel their pain but it does tend to skew the overall evaluation of a product, especially when the product is expressedly advertised as "Windows only.")

Long story short, a permanently locked server is counter-productive for Daybreak since it's one that is guaranteed to decline eventually to an unsustainable population. If they did go that route, guaranteed it would result in a server that gets cancelled and re-started periodically. Is that what you'd like?

In any case, the lifespan of such a server, even if locked, may well be longer than the lifespan of EQ as a whole these days, so such discussions could all be academic.

I believe locked can work.

PoP lock brings easy travel which diminishes the "classic feel" but does significantly increase the endgame. Personally I could live with Luclin or even Velious locks but likely PoP is better to maintain overall numbers. More to do, easier to move along if someone else is where you tried to go first.

LoY and Ldon absolutely can be tossed in with PoP since they are more like the missing content for non-raiders of PoP than actual expacs themselves. LoY prismatic dye is one thing I regret in the game though... I like the mismatched (and matched with effort) looks that were the fashion aspect of this game prior to everybody dying themselves red, black or red and black. However, I'd still play on a LoY/ldon locked server since my main issue is so minor.

1 locked server probably lasts a long time. Especially if they restart a new prog cycle every few years and you get the option on the new server as follows: "This server is about to go into GoD... do you want to free transfer to the locked server or continue progressing?"
