Ha! I wish I could say I have that kind of sway with SOE. ;) Will whisper about it to the birdies, though.

May be no site updates tomorrow as well; electric company just gave our area an eta of "possibly Wednesday". :/

I am hugely in favour of all sorts of "niche" servers. Ragefire and Lockjaw going to different lock times is excellent in my view as it should help sort the population a bit. A no-boxing server could be interesting. A new Discord server could be very popular.

In respects to a Discord 2.0 though... how do they offer it so that the angst (hackers/whining) doesn't spoil it? I suppose I am asking what could the "rules/game conditions" of the server be? The death = you're a newb was kind of a core rule aspect of the original. Would this be a 4 weeks on tournament server that relaunches every month?

For example a different niche server idea: a "Children of Zek" PVP server that ran as per current progression using the old Sullon Zek ruleset with the 6 month minimum unlocks and stopped at Planes of Power (pvp really died off somewhere after PoP? or was it Luclin?) I could see outpopulating the current Zek server on live --especially if they reserved all the current Zek server names to their current account owners on the new server (I think that kind of hook would bring a few over to try).

The problem with any new PVP server is currently, hackers involved or not, PVP is very unbalanced in EQ. A Discord server, if they can control hacking, would work better in PVP because the goal isn't just to kill other players, it's to survive and level the highest. In theory you could "win" this server without ever killing another player. It isn't the PVP aspect of Discord which especially interests me, it's the race-course type competition.

Sure, it would have to re-start periodically since the goal has to be attainable and when it's reached it's game over.

Controlling hackers would definitely be a problem without a substantial investment in GMs. Even if they incentivize players to watch out for hackers (A free level for every hacker you turn in!) it's not going to be easy at all. Which is probably the biggest reason we'd never see it. And that's too bad.
