Made a druid, appropriately named Sippin. At least I managed to reserve my name of choice!
Zoned into Misty Thicket to find about 65 players, all about level 1-4, and virtually no mobs alive to kill. Typical first day on a new server. Finally located a few "whites", which gave about 4% regular XP to kill. Definitely not an "EZ" server! (I've seen emu servers where 3 kills ding ya.) In fact, this seems a slower pace than P99, if memory serves me there.
Forget attacking a yellow mob. Guaranteed death solo. I couldn't even land spells, such as they are, or melee damage. Of course, a yellow could be as high as 3 levels above, which at level 1 would be justifiably fatal. But I wonder if a level 2 mob should be such guaranteed death.
Misty Thicket is a great zone for halflings to level, but personally I don't like the "new" Misty Thicket, which alas still persists here, because after all, "Progression" isn't "Classic." So I decided to move to my all-time favorite noobie zone, Butcherblock Mountains, which Thank Karana has never been "updated." Made the long long run to Freeport, evading various bright red skells in Kithicor and the occasional skell in the Commonlands (86 players in zone). My plan was to bind in Freeport (66 in West Freeport zone) before "boarding the boat." (I was wrong with initial post about Soulbinders. They DO exist here. I just looked in the wrong Freeport zone.) There are translocator gnomes in this server as I found one on the docks who punted me to Ocean of Tears. Problem is the moment I landed on an island dock in that zone I got hit for 250 points of damage by a named pirate. So either this is intentional to block noobie journeys of this sort or I ran into really bad luck.
Guess I may stick around Misty, finding such prey as survives the mass of halflings running about, until I get to level 12, when I can bind myself. This morning, about 7am EST, only 10 in the zone so should be easier.
I'm not against grouping, so if you see me on line and you're of suitable level, send me a tell. But it strikes me that when a solo kill of a white con earns 4% XP, a group is going to be slow going. Although they might have the group XP bonus running, (which would be SMART) in which case it might well be faster leveling than solo. Of course, it's all about smelling the roses and enjoying the experience, eh?
BTW, what's the deal with naming toons!? It seems like nobody tries for environmentally-appropriate names. For halflings you see all the "clever" but silly junior high school type names working off their height, big feet, smelliness, etc.
More to come!
