Daybreak now says it never belonged to CN after asset freezeFollow

Someone mentioned this in game, so I am linking today's article from Massivelyop.com:

http://massivelyop.com/2018/04/24/daybreaks-russian-parent-companys-assets-are-frozen-by-the-u-s-government/

This seems pretty surreal since it takes the implementation of fake news and retro spin to a new level.

Yeah, but what's fake and what's not? Definitely disconcerting, though.... in a superpower struggle between the U.S. and Russia one little MMORPG compaNY would be the equivalent of a gnat caught in the middle of a fight between an eagle and a polar bear....

If the ownership was transfered or was always owned by this individual instead of Columbus Nova, then why was that never corrected in their press releases? You would figure with all the things that are going on in the news for the past year regarding Russia, an American company would want to distance themselves away from Renova Group and Columbus Nova.

Yet another disconcerting update: Senior Publishing Officer Laura Naviaux just left DBG.

http://massivelyop.com/2018/04/25/daybreak-update-chief-publishing-officer-laura-naviaux-has-left-the-company/

And an amusing thread here on MMORPG.com where many people are apparently trained as corporate lawyers:

https://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/473225/daybreak-games-shutting-down-on-june-5th

The really sad part of news stories like these is they make the average guy just playing the game question how stable all this stuff really is...

The style with which DBG is actively removing posts - I'm activating the bucket list here. When you spend more money on spin than content you should know you have a problem. Good luck everyone, see you on the flip side.

We should pool all our spare change and buy them out! Say there are 1,000,000 players and former players, throw in $10 a pop, that's.... um.... a billion dollars! Then we can have them run it the way WE want it exactly! Get every bug fixed, finish broken/incomplete quests, do epic 3.0's, have GMs quickly responsive and provide fun in-game special events, balance PVP, make it so rangers don't always have to take the death touches, make it an immediate ban offense to type "dr00d", "ranjur", "beastmaster" or, worst of them all, perma-life-long ban here: "rouge."

The Green Bay Packers are owned by their fans! If it's good enough for football it's good enough for us!

Actually, that's 10 million. It's 1,000 millions to a billion (maybe you were kidding ;P)

Do you think there are even 50,000 Everquest players (unique individuals). I see you mentioned former, not sure how many would give $10.

I guess now is a good time to jump ship. I was upset when they let Dave Georgeson go. It's sad more people were laid off. I just cancelled my 2 subs. My ALT Tab keys are going to thank me. Smiley: lol

Felicite, please! You can't be so gullible! Smiley: smile

Of course I was being... feli---cecious!

Also wouldn't require a billion dollars. Under the current circumstances, if it gets any worse it might just require the pocket change and unused stamps of a handful of EQ raiding guild members.

Now I'm exaggerating the reverse way! But I do hope EQ manages to survive this geopolitical skirmishing. It's not like Everquest had anything to do world-wide power politics and balance of power jostling...

A Note From EQ Producer Mooncast
https://forums.daybreakgames.com/eq/index.php?threads/a-note-from-eq-producer-mooncast.249012/

Hail Norrathians,

Many of you have heard the recent news that Daybreak Games is reorganizing, and a number of employees were let go from the studio. Although this change has been tough for everyone involved, we deeply appreciate the concern and support that has come from the community. I wanted to take a moment to reassure you all that this restructuring will not change our plans for EverQuest and EverQuest 2, and that we are looking forward to crafting more content for all of you to enjoy.

Though we’re not ready to announce too much yet, both game teams are still gearing up for this year’s expansions, and EverQuest 2’s Game Update #106 is just around the corner with loads of new in-game content got players (stay tuned for news on that very soon!). Plus, on top of all that, we’re already entering the planning stages to make sure that EverQuest’s 20th Anniversary will be an event to remember!

EverQuest has created an incredible legacy, and both game teams remain dedicated to adding to that legacy.

See you in Norrath!

Heresy, I know...

But Blizzard buying the content/rights to EQ would allow them to:

-manage the legacy servers & progression rotation if they felt so inclined (I think they would more as a goodwill than profit thing) --I wouldn't expect more expacs, but we are getting dangerously close to that reality anyway. This includes EQ2.

-allow them to "merge" universes. A WoW expac or two based on EQ lore could easily be the best-written thing in WoW, and there are races like Iksar that would be appealling (as long as they look like Iksars and not anime). Basically turns the expac(s) into massive EQ Easter eggs.

Blizzard has the power to figure out a way to port characters up as well aka recognize your 20 years in EQ within WoW.

As it presently stands, play EQ and enjoy it but don't have a ton of confidence it will be around in a few years.

No kidding! The game has been living on borrowed time for years! We should all be thankful we've had this game to enjoy for almost two decades. And, realistically, it may go on forever with the emu servers, whose founders are generally driven by non-financial motives, unless some legalities involved in eventually shutting down the live game would carry over to emu versions.
