Returned to EQ and am SOOOO Lost!Follow

Greetings all!

I returned to EQ after being gone at least five years. I knew there'd be a re-learning curve but I'm still very lost! Still trying to arrange my windows to how I like them, figuring out which ones I don't need, trying to remember how to set up spells on my hot keys, etc. I know I have pieces of armor that contain spell effects that I can click on but I went through each piece I'm wearing and in the bank and don't see that info listed anymore...or I was just too overwhelmed to noticed....lol! I think I ran back and forth through Butcher Block several times and kept missing the path that took me to Greater Fay. Finally arrived in Kelethin and stocked up on food & water to turn off that annoying message. Don't even get me started on how to use the map. I recall there's a trick with that but after turning on and off all the different "levels" I decided to revisit that later.

In the midst of trying to figure out how to open my inventory I received a pm from "somewhere." (I vaguely recall a way one can search for various classes/levels, etc. - heck if I know where to find it - but was likely how I was "found" since I was in my guild's hall (I didn't realize when I left I was still in a guild!!) and was the only person there. The person asked if I'd like to join a group going someplace I'd never heard of. (Seriously, I used to know how to play this game - I began just shy of six months after the game began and played daily for seven years, took some time off, returned after a few years, then left again.) I thanked the person for the invitation but explained I was new and very lost. The person said that was ok, just join them and keep them healed (I'm an 80-something Druid). I said at this point I'd get us all killed!

So!! Fun to be back...I think when my brain fog clears a bit I need to sit down, go through my equipment piece by piece to become reacquainted with where the pieces are that have spells attached to them and speaking of spells...I have a gazillion of them - fortunately neatly organized but I need to figure out which ones I'll need regularly.

No real question here except to say I'll probably be living on this board for a few days. ;)

I appreciate how you feel. I returned to EQ after a long hiatus and quite literally spent weeks setting up window options for melee and caster characters, testing spell list buff and combat presets, testing macros, finding and reading combat tomes, AA's and disc's and then getting that stuff on hotbars.Reading and rereading AA descriptions and still misunderstanding what they actually do.

Setting up guild hall and the fellowship windows and how to get that functioning smoothly, checking loyalty vendor rewards, not understanding merc scrolls. What about the odd expansion currencies (wtf)? Useful /veteran rewards? Neighborhood housing/guild housing plots. Starting cities versus spawning in TSS. Then there were subtle things like how combat dummies don't work like the description seems to indicate. That took several hours to figure out. And then looking for workarounds to up 2hs on my ranger.

I did waste a lot of time fumbling about, though I'm not really complaining. I felt a surge of satisfaction after getting all those little things working in symphony with all the other little things which need doing.

Hi Trappin...

...ARRRGGGHHH!!! I haven't even made it to creating combat presets, marcos, etc. Welp...I figured it out before after being gone awhile so I (hope) I can do it again! I created a new character on the progression server to see if that would help refresh my memory but all that did is waste about four hours getting to level 2! When I first began playing in the 90's, I'm almost positive one could get to level 5 in a couple of hours easily. Maybe I should create a new character on my home server where I'll go through the tutorial (if that still exists)...or maybe I should just figure it all out on my main toon.

There IS a tutorial and it wouldn't hurt to go thru it with one toon. It is a good way to get reacclimated. It would be hard to return after a long time away to a level 80 druid, both because of the level and the complexity of playing a druid class, which is a jack-of-all-trades, with a ton of spells and abilities. Feel free to post questions here and there are people happy to help. I also suggest reading the EQ forums and joining your server's druid channel as well as making sure you're in the general chat as well. Most players in this game welcome newbies and returnees since most of us realize we need such players to keep the game alive.

What servers are you playing on? I'd be happy to help on my server, Firiona Vie. You can also send cross-server tells like this:

[t firiona.sippin I got a question!

Now this is how it's "supposed" to work. I see some posts that it has been broken at times in the past. Worth a try!

Hi again, Sippin,

Once I got over my first day of being overwhelmed to the max, I did create a new Druid and am currently going through all the quests in the Gloomingdale mines. That has been helping a LOT to refresh my memory as well as learning keystroke shortcuts I never learned before. I've been through that tutorial in the past but now having a merc to aid is making it much easier.

I'm not sure if I mentioned in my second post (can't see it with the reply), I was still in a guild - guess that guild doesn't kick out inactives. Met a guildmate in guild chat who has been great at answering questions and is willing to help. ANDDDD...as it turns out, I'm on Firiona Vie as well. I will send a friend request when I log in again if that's ok?

You're so right - I knew there'd be a learning curve upon returning but YOWZA!!! I was looking at the immense amount of everything I have and didn't know where to start so, again, relearning on a new Druid is great! I did manage to take my level 80 over to Lower Fay and kill Equestrille since that horse killed me so many times in days of yore. ;)

Many thanks again for your help and suggestions...see you in Norrath!

The command to add a friend is, simply, /friend sippin

Welcome back to the game and feel free to ask any questions, in game or here. I can be afk a lot since I leave my toon logged in most of the day even when working on another computer. But I will check and respond... eventually. Smiley: smile
