New progression serverFollow

Has anyone heard any info about the new progression servers mentioned in the producer letter as far as rule set? I have never played on one, but I am really interested in playing on one from scratch (that whole try to capture the old feelings thing).

You could waste literally hours on the official boards reading posts speculation what hardcore & ultra-casual will/should/must be.

I don't recommend that really. When they make an official announcement, we will know if they were serious about those labels or not.

Most of us seem to agree that they will both likely be "game of toggles" where they turn off or on existing ruleset switches (i.e., truebox, agents of change, free trade loot, etc.) rather than surprise us with totally new things.


Hardcore should probably not appeal to too many people. PVP seems unlikely (hackfest hassle to police), so they either have to make it racing unlocks and/or much harder to beat the content. But done right... it should be an exciting spot for the handful of guilds that would love that atmosphere.

Ultra-casual depends on the honesty of the label. If it caters to the seldom/sporadically logging in players that are happy to be in an era for a long, long time... I think it has legs as a niche server thing. Done wrong, it might have more players to start but will be a krono-farmer playground and lose tons of population when Kunark opens too early.


In the meantime... most players would probably be happier playing on an existing server unless one of these new ones is really the "thing you have been waiting for". If it is... grats!

While I'm all for people being able to pick their own fun, so I'd never say don't make such a server, I would say I'd never even bother creating a char on that server, unless they paid me to play on it. Just doesn't sound like any fun at all.

I played a bit on Sullon and I don't remember that, would be nice to hear the stories. Yeah, I know about Fansy but that didn't need to be a timesink. They created the "Fansy Rule" and that ended that.

A real discord server should NOT be a CS nightmare, in theory, since it should have Sullon Zek type rules where anything goes. The problem would be, of course, cheat programs whose tolerance would probably doom the server.

I remember reading funny posts back in the day (by Fansy himself?), but don't know what the Fansy rule is, or what the deal was with what he was doing. Any links, or quick recaps?

The highest player on the original discord server was a 40-ish cleric, I believe, so I do think it's possible to level. I mean, nobody said you HAVE to play on it, for goodness sake! I mean it bears a remarkable similarity to this thing called... REAL LIFE. Like a guy leaves work, gets in his car and drives home to his wife and kids and he gets broadsided by a tractor trailer full of beer and dies. His life is over, NO REZ and absolutely no recovery of his "gear" which presumably is destroyed in the crash. That's a lot like zoning into a train. Dem's da breaks.

Jinaabi says "no thanks" and it's his right. I guarantee you some people would play on it, in fact probably a lot at the start. I sure would just for a change of pace. Would it decline over time? Without a doubt, just like every other progression server. It's the nature of the beast.

They're introducing TWO new servers and not one post is positive about either. Sometimes I think there is no pleasing EQ players. The game is 20 years old and still ADDING new servers and what do we do... complain!
