arg. all this downtime really grates with me, especially as when you translate the times into europe it pretty much always involves us missing an entire evening's play.

a robust infrastructure really shouldn't need this much downtime, it's almost as if each ff server is run on one box only with no hot spares or server mirroring from some giy's garage or something.

hmm....

This is nearly a whole freaking day in the USA too. 11amET - 9pmET.

Why do they never do maintainence during the JP prime time? Is it just me or does it really seem like everyone outside of Asia has to deal with these updates and maintainence's, while they get to sleep through it?

Just once I'd like to see them do an update or maintainence from 2amET - 9amET or some bullcrap.

*Edit- Rate down, see if I care. Whoever did kiss my ***** Ya I'm complaining that the JP get to sleep through the maintenence... AGAIN. The last update was in the middle of the night in Japan too. And pretty much every server update/maintenence I can think of took place in the middle of the night in Japan. Just an observation. Instead of hiding behind your little anonymous rate-down button, if you disagree then speak up and show yourself coward, and prove me wrong if you think what I said is incorrect.

Ouch, I noticed there was more maintenance upcoming but took no notice of it... after all we've just had an update and I assumed that this would just be a hour or two affair to fix the bugs from the update...

BUT 10 HOURS!!

Wow, I wonder if this has anything to do with accomodating the Xbox 360 launch?

This is my favorite part of all these maintenance posts - there is always at least 1 person that posts this.

Yes they picked this exact time, just to **** you off because they knew it was the ONE day you get off work :P

I dunno if its for xbox360, but one thing that's on my mind when I read about THIS maintenence which directly follows the Monday Maintenence:

1). Why didn't they do this maintenence when they did Monday's?
2). Why didn't they do this maintenence when they did Sunday Night's?
3). PLEASE tell me this maintenence is going to get rid of some of this freaking Lag/DDoS/Unable to Log in crap that we've been experiencing.

Maintenence is a very necessary evil, but I HOPE this maintenence will actually result in something good. I hate it when they do maintenence, and 2 days later, BOOM, DDoS/Lag/Disconnects all over again. Then I have to ask "um, wtf was that maintenence 2 days ago For anyways?"

I don't mind maint. if it actually solves a problem and makes our online experience better. I do get annoyed, however, when maint. doesn't seem to solve anything, and/or when they turn around and do another maint. 2 days later...

I'll take planned downtime over "unscheduleded maintenance" anyday, i.e. Search problems/Ah/Mail problems and all that fuzzy stuff.

At least you can plan around planned downtime/schedulded maintenance.

sounds like they finally wised up about server problems. Maybe Uncle Billy gave them some new servers to help with the Xbox release(planning ahead maybe?).

ARGH. I had two days off this week: Monday, and Thursday.

They did Maintenance on Monday, so I planned to play for a looong time on Thursday.

Now they're doing this *** long maintenance on Thursday.

GOD DAMMIT SE STOP DOING MAINTENANCE ON MY ONLY DAYS OFF THIS MONTH!!!.

Thanks for the laugh, guys. :) Maintenance announcements always produce a good chuckle for me when the 'OMG' posts begin.

I get this picture in my head about the kind of lives you all lead. Lives where your whole world revolves around a game, where there are no friends other than those pseudo-acquaintances you perceive you have in game. One where there is no real grass, flowers, trees ... indeed any world at all outside your little black computer 'box'. That little box where pizza is shoved in one side, and a string of expletives and a mound of garbage comes out the other. I can just 'see' your surroundings and how limiting they are.

And, I have to laugh out loud, because otherwise I would cry. Since I am trying to cut down on my Kleenex budget and since laughing is good for your health (good medicine for cancer, wards off depression, and a good guffaw can clear out your smoggy lungs), I appreciate your contributions to my health! /smile

well...maintenance is defined as "The work of keeping something in proper condition; upkeep." so in essence, no, it is not solving a problem. it is, however, making "our onine experience better" by preventing an unexpected crash, or even worse, data loss. maintenance is never going to directly solve anything, that's just the nature of the beast.

I'll never mind maintence. yes, i'd rather be able to play whenever i want, but we don't have that luxery

I'm kinda glad they picked the 13th. I take a very important Certification exam that day and not having FFXI open means I may actually arrive at the testing center on time!

As for being related to Xbox 360 I doubt it. I think it's related to what happened on Sunday.

Oh the irony. We finally get a smooth update that doesn't cuase 24 hours of downtime...and they follow it up with maintenance a long *** maintenance 2 days later.

For shame, playing a video game on Yom Kippur. ;p

What would your bobbeshi think?! Be a mentsch, forget ffxi, and go to shul. Gey gezunterheyt. ^-^;

Oh, and just a side-note... half of what country? I don't think I know another Jewish person where I work. O.O;
