XP Loss Cap (was forum=82)Follow

Is it true that even at lvl 75, the max XP you lose for one death is 2400 XP? I'm thinking about rejoining the game and I remember higher level people talking about losing 20k xp from deaths. Perhaps my memory serves me poorly, but I could swear that with my lvl 58 thief I lost around 6000 xp when I died. Please don't flame me.

lose 20k exp in one death
absolutely not.

2400 being the cap im not sure, I think its around 4k if you homepoint.

But getting a R3 you lose like 500exp which is pretty much nothing.

its not.. 4k if you HP.... R1 returns around 1200 so death = 2400... or somewhere around there.. i know its less that 3k and more than 2k

2400 is the most exp you can lose while HPing after they added a patch. Before it was 10% of your max exp you would lose if you HP'd. R1 gets you back roughly 50%, R2 around 500-700exp loss, R3 about 200-300 exp loss. I don't remember the exact numbers for it.

I seem to remember R2@75 has 600 exp loss and R3 has 200

2400 is the most you can lose in a single death, even if HPing.

When you die you lose either:

a) 0 xp, if you're level 1-3
b) 10% of the total xp cost for your current level, if you're level 4-24
c) 8% of the total xp cost for your current level, if you're level 25 or higher
d) 2400 xp, if 8% of the total xp cost for your current level would otherwise exceed this amount (actually translates to level 68 or higher)

This applies at the moment of death, no matter what happens after that.

When you get a raise, you get back:

a) 50% of the xp lost, if you level 50 or under, or are raised with R1 or Hymnus
b) 75% of the xp lost, if you above level 50 and are raised with R2
c) 90% of the xp lost, if you above level 50 and are raised with R3

What that means, at 75, is that a home point costs your 2400 xp, R1/Hymnus costs 1200 xp, R2 costs 600 xp, and R3 costs 240 xp.

Death in a level capped area results in loss of xp as if you were the level of the cap.

The 20k losses people may have been talking about would be multiple deaths and lots or Raise 1s. In extremely bad situations giving only R1 is common, and if things are going poorly enough its not unhead of for people to be dying an uncomfortably high number of times.

I'm not sure it works like that, unless they changed it again after the first patch. An old site I have lists the exp loss differently. For example it shows that at 56 to 60 exp loss 1600.

I would take that page with a grain of salt; as far as I know, it hasn't been updated at all since the post-50 TNL reduction; it doesn't even give correct information reagrding the XP/fight cap.

And I've died enough leveling my PLD to know for a fact that death doesn't start costing 2.4k XP at 61 like that chart claims.

I'm fairly sure that they simply never bothered to update the XP loss columns after the TNL reduction.

They absolutely did NOT update that site, R1 now gives 50% back not 25% that table shows .. as someone else above clearly stated the returns on XP lost are now 50%, 75% and 90%.

In addition, for the OP's benefit, many (all?) mission BCs are now XP-loss free zones, so no more thousands or tens of thousands of XP lost doing a CoP BC fight for example.

Quite a long time ago, in fact.

EDIT: Since July 25, 2006 to be exact, so almost 17 months.
