Icons next to character names in-game (was forum=82)Follow

#1 Dec 10 2007 at 1:09 PM Rating: Decent
Hi Folks!

I'm new to FF XI.

I've learned that a character's name will be in blue if the player has "anonymous" set. It looks like a character's name will have a green ball next to it if the player/character is looking for a party. It would appear that a player selling goods in the "bazaar" will have a brown tied sack next to their name.

I've seen several colored balls next to character names with a variety of colors, but haven't been able to find the meaning of the colors documented anywhere. I'm starting to think that non-green "seeking party" balls are related to the color of a linkshell. Is this true? If it isn't true, what exactly do the different colors mean?

I've also seen a question mark by some characters' names. What does this mean?

I've also seen an icon appear next to my character's name, only appearing momentarily, that looks like ... uh, a pokeball: it's a circle, kind of red, with a notch on either side--can anyone tell me what this is?

Thanks all for your help!

SB

Darker Blue - Anonymous

Lighter Blue - In a pt (as far as I've noticed... don't really care about this one... kinda pointless unless in /sea)

Green Exclamation Mark - LFP/LFG (depending who un-noobified you, usually)

Red Exclamation Mark - the thing you thought was a pokeball, most likely was auto-party... used this feature only once back when I started out on a friend's account years ago... kind of a useless function... nobody uses it anymore, if they ever did, for a useful purpose, as far as I've noticed

Question Mark - Newly created characters... not necessarily new to the game, characters, just newly created characters... be wary of this when people ask you for gil... they could just be looking for some "easy" money for those higher lvl spells/equips

Brown Bag - Correct... People selling stuff in their bazaars... :)

Everything Else - as far as I can recall, there is nothing else to tell about other then Linkshells... most people will have a small circular thing on the left of their names that will be a different color for everyone, usually. That depicts the user having joined a linkshell and is most likely asking for a PL, like most people that join the LS's I'm in, do... hahaha. If you'd like to see what their linkshell is called, check them and under their bazaar button, it will say the name of the linkshell they currently have equipped, and can also tell you if they are a pearl, sack, or shell holder for that linkshell.

Icon priorities, lowest to highest

3. Linkshell
2. Bazaar
1. LFP/LFG

and... ya... that is everything that I know about the icons that appear by user's names... if anyone has anything else to add, feel free... somebody always know something more about something, then someone else... right?

EDIT: trying this out to see if it fixes my sig... <.<

It means they're having connection problems and are likely about to disconnect.

A list of player icons in the game.

This is anything but pointless, especially if you are a mage.

Sometimes, you have groups of people running around, and/or two parties camping nearby, and cannot remember everyone who is in *your* party or alliance. The Light-Blue names help, because you can visually know automatically whether or not that person is in Your Party/Alliance, or not.

Usually mostly helpful for Alliance/endgame than anything else, but please don't tell a new player it is "Pointless".

Edit: *Rolls eyes* so someone rates me down because I didn't check the date on the OP? Honestly, some people.. *grumbles*

LOL

It took 6 months for someone to respond to this post about something that most ffxi players take for granted.

I would more blame the moderator of Forum 82, than anything else.

It being moved here from there is why it was on the first page, even though the date is 6 months ago. You would think they might be more on the ball to move off-topic posts out of a forum quickly, and not 6 months late....

black with a green exclamation point = Seeking Party.
As you know, bazaar = brown tied bag.
Red ring of doom(pokeball)= Connection was cut off somehow
Question Mark = New adventurer status is on
Blueish circle with an M = Mentor status is on
Anything shaped like a dot with some stuff coming off the side = Linkshell, the colors themselves aren't important, thats just what people decided to color the LS when they got it.

Think I got everything, have fun.

Edit: Holy Necropost batman
